I like Mark- i try to credit him whenever i can. to copy the "i predicted it too) theme of this thread i give you my previous mentions of Mark Rechtin which clearly trump Icemark's

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...8&postcount=46

Mark breaking the engine recall story

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...39&postcount=1

and actually if you jsut do a search for his last name you'll see many posts by various forum members going back to this one in January 03 where we relied on the very accurate Mr. Rechtin for info

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...hlight=rechtin
as well as in august of that year for the HP fiasco

Thanks Mark.

Well, he's not dead on this time. Australia's 40th Anniversary models come in Marble White, Metropolitan Grey, Stormy Blue and Brilliant Black.

There is still no info from the US about next years new RX-8.

Because I think the general debate/speculation game is interesting and wanted to contribute any tidbits I had discovered. I just don't finding pissing contests over who knows more or first to be particularly edifying.

And there's nothing wrong with wishful fantasy. Hope sustains many in times of want.

The Black STi should look great next to the Ti 8.....

We could care less, honestly.

This is a thread about next years RX-8. We don't want to read about a dude rabbitting on about his three year old Subaru.

Take it to the Lounge.

But a low 13 second car with great performance and balance in a ultra light chassis( 2600lbs) with amazing brakes and turning, that I think they can built and call it a rx-7
and it has to be cheap
I've seen a bunch of people state numbers that I think just are not going to happen. The numbers keep getting lower and lower, but your 2600 lbs is about the lowest I've seen. That's like a Lotus Elise (not quite, my bad). I think a more realistic number for a Kabura/RX7 rotary would be more like 2850 lbs.

Mid to low 13's? I bet the new rotary will clock in a high 13. And I bet it will be a little under 300 HP for 2010.

The US Lotus Elise weighs a little less than 2000 lbs. (The version in Europe was more like 1600 lbs in 1996.)

you stant by your #'s I stan by mine, one thing is that most of what I said is based on public stated info and personal conversatios with mazda's people

It is all a matter of opinion right now, even if I knew somebody working on the proyect things change before the introduction of a car, it has to go thru a lot of departments each one with a diferent agenda

About the weigth mazda is shooting for 2500/2600 thats why I say 2650 this is not inside info, a lot of people know this, mazda's own people has said they want a more practicle and rotary elise, they are shooting for something in the midle of a caymen and an elise

nadda- havent approached the dealers since ive been working and now im travelling to SSX this morning. there was some info around(from canada) about 2008 cars awhile back but it never showed on the US website when i had a chance to make a salesman look for me.

another post this morning i just read suggested that some socal dealerships have a few 2008s(non facelifted) on the lot - but i have no confirmation on that and its a little hard to believe since 2008 rx-8 info is not on the US mazda site. we'll know more this weekend

gomez- i dont suppose you have tried our mutual red-headed freind have you? he doesnt answer when i call.

Thank you, RC.

Your post is the first one in the thread that gives me some independent indication that Mazda may have something up their sleeve.

When I heard that Mazda Australia was going to have to go without RX-8 imports for four months, I wondered why. Was it because Mazda had to retool the RX-8 assembly line? Was it because Australia is a minnow in Mazda's world market? Did Australia have to wait while the US market soaked up the early 2008 RX-8's?

I asked myself these questions because it seems very odd to me that RX-8 production would be put on hold for four months. I get emails whenever Mazda issue a press release. There is no talk of any new Japanese assembly plants at this time. There's no spring cleaning going on at Hiroshima. There doesn't seem to be any reason to halt RX-8 production.

A face-lifted car doesn't stop a production line for four months, does it? Could it be that the 2008 cars are going to be different in a major way?

Everyone is telling me that the 2008 car is just a facelift. A facelifted car has new wheels, new bumpers, new lights. You don't stop a line for that.

I'd like to know why the Mazda dealers in Australia have been told that the new RX-8 will not start production until April when it's known that the 40th Anniversary model will be a December build.

There may be a good reason why there is a stop build of four months. What is it?

Cheers.

No, I haven't.

Shamefully, I have neglected our friendship. He's been terrific to me and I haven't returned his generosity.

I'm beating myself up over it in the tried and true Catholic way.

another thing is that the 2009 rx-8 for the us its a 2008 for the rest of the world, and production of this car should start in april or may of 2008, another coincidence?

Nah mate, there's nothing there. The 40th Anniversary model is only a small run. Probably all built before Xmas.

Its called overstock. They overbuilt for demand.

Even when they were building the FC they did that. They would shut the RX-7 production down for 3 months at a time and augment 323/familia production instead.

In the states is was rare to find dealers that even had a RX-7 in early January because they had stopped making north American models for that long. It lets the dealers catch up with demand, and blow out the year end overstock.

So a couple tihngs...

I know the RX-8 is due for a facelift based on Mazda's production cycle, but the 2008 RX-8 info shows no change for the US except for the 40th Anniversary Edition. It's entirely possible that the 2009 RX-8 will get facelifted, which puts it nicely on a two year run before the debut of the 2011 rotary replacement that is currently being rumored in 2010, unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Autoshow. It's all speculation from me, but that timeline makes a lot of sense based on the tendencies of automakers in general (2 years of life for a facelifted car), Mazda in particular (prefers to unveil rotaries at Tokyo), and the general rumor mill (Renesis 2 debuting in 2010).

I'm not sure what's the big deal about Mazda stopping RX-8 production for a bit. Demand hasn't been too high lately and to the best of my knowledge Mazda's plants are configured to produce a variety of different cars. It could just be a stoppage to produce other cars that are in more demand. While not related, remember that 2006 RX-8s were a late start production; they did not start appearing in the US until about March. Certainly that had something to do with the fire at the plant, but on the other hand things like plant upgrades and tooling refresh could have the same effect.

Finally, the weight target of the RX-8 was 2700 pounds, but it came in at 3000. The target for the S2000 was 2600 pounds, but it came in at 2800. The weight target is often very optimistic and these examples are just for sportscars where weight matters more.
