New Recall?

Today I went in to my dealership for an oil change and to see if there was any new flashes. I was told that one came out June 6th, 2004 that addressed the lack of power at higer RPM's / No start engine. This is word for word what the service paper says:

*PERFORM RECALL MSP04 ENGINE NO START, LACK OF POWER*

Anyway, dunno if this is old news or what, I just remember people saying that around 7k RPM their engine seemed to "lack power" thought this might be useful to those people.

Is it the "M" flash or the updated "M" flash if any? because the "M" flash leaned the air fuel at lower RPMs but runs extremely rich at 6-7 thousand RPMs! So if it is true that it addresses lack of power in this RPM bandwidth, It must be and updated version.

there is no updated M flash. if they make an update to the PCM software they change the letter. and as of today there is still no N flash.

here is the exact wording from the MSP about what it addresses in regards to "lack of power":

• Engine has lack of acceleration power and / or knocking when driving at more than approx. 6000 RPM or at
high altitudes. This is caused by poor combustion gas sealing due to the lack of amount of oil supplied from
the metering oil pump.

so the M does not change timing or AF to fix this particular concern. it changes what the oil metering does for this particular power issue.

"Aha" now I get it. We better check our oil level more often. It's Mazda's method of a power increase without effecting the catalytic converter and warranty that would otherwise happen with a leaner air/fuel setting. Thanks for the info.

Helpful insite everyone.

Mine sucks in the high RPM's right now. I going to get the M flash on Tuesday. In addition, the MPG is 14.5 highway---OUCH!

We'll fix that crap though.

The oil meter is mechanical not electrical, I do not see how the m flash would effect the oil metering pump.

After getting my "M" flash back today I've noticed nothing at all. Doesn't seem to have changed the RPM scale or anything.

I didn't have a problem with it before though, so not complaining, just was hoping I'd get in it and it would suddenly fly!

Yes I know! I didn't notice that much with the "M" flash either, but if it's any consolation, having the "M" flash does give you better performance with the canzoomer mods.
