New purchase 😎

Hey guys, just wanted to share what I picked up for nearly a steal in the color I wanted in OK shape. Motor likely blown and no idea of transmission condition.. dropped it off at the rebuilder, and agreed to do stage 1 rebuild with some minor reliability porting.. was also told there are no more brand new Mazda rx8 motors. Then I come to find out pineapple has brand new ones.. now I don't know what to do. Go for the rebuild by a reputable shop, or go for a brand new Mazda from pineapple. Price wise will likely be similar. But which will be more reliable I want to know. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

The forums are dead/dying you'll get used to it

official mazda remans were hit or miss go with a reputable shop in your area, pineapple does great work, so does IRP so you can't go wrong with either

Lol I can see that. Initially when I just came in to introduce myself a few months ago and learn more about these cars, I got lots of feedback but now all those guys disappeared.. Wonder why this place is so dead.. this car is one of the best handling chassis in the world imo. Don't think people realize what a bargain these are right now. Is the r/rx8 reddit section more hot?

Supposedly pineapple has "brand new" engines. Rob from there told me they are new to the last bolt. But irp told me it's false advertising and I went for their stage 1 rebuild. Still have no idea which is more reliable as this info does not exist online. I would guess the newer one would be better.

Would you recommend that sohn adapter?

You can source parts with the correct part numbers to piece together a new engine... and then build it or have it built by a professional.

It might not be the cheapest way, but it can be done on ebay.

Cheers to many enjoyable miles

Thanks. I hear you don't save much from doing the build yourself as the parts are pretty expensive. If I had my own garage, I'd get a reman motor and swap it in myself, but unfortunately I have to use a shop and pay 1000s more. That's fine as long as they do a good job.

Nice looking 8 my dude!

How does the warranty IRP is offering stack up against the warranty from pineapple?

For a while there were no "new" motors but there were Mazda OEM "remanufactured" engines which are "pretty much new". That may have changed now as I think Mazda has started producing parts for 13b's again. I could be wrong tho haven't really looked into it.

Rebuild really depends on the quality of the current engine components ... If you're rebuilding a really worn engine then I might say reman is better. If it's in decent shape then it might be valuable to have the mechanic who built you engine as a resource later on.

No real answer but maybe some things to consider. And yah the forum is a bit slow these days but we're still out here lol. Spring/summer I'm usually a bit more active but the 8 is hibernating right now

Thanks bro.. Na they only give 12 months or 12k miles at irp. I only found out about pineapples new engines the other day. Going to try and get them to put in the brand new one. Have a feeling it won't be so easy now that I agreed to do the rebuild last week. Rob at pineapple told me they are new to the last bolt. 36k/36mo warranty.

I'm still a little disturbed that IRP is saying Pineapple isn't selling "new" engines.
If they're telling their customers that then I should let it be made known in the Rebuilders thread.
I don't want anyone to spread BS.

I think a 3 year/36 month warranty is a pretty good indicator that Rob is being truthful.

This was Robs reply to me.. let's get all the facts straight before we say anything bad about IRP. Maybe they just didn't know like Rob said.. I mean i won't benefit much from the 36 month warranty since I will likely do less than 1k miles per year on this car but I'm just after the one that can build me the most reliable motor. Be it mazda or IRP.

I contacted Rob personally this morning to hear it directly from him and he responded promptly.
I invited him to post here on the forum but he doesn't feel it's necessary.

I'm satisfied.

I’m in the same boat bought a running great higher milage engine car.
I’m doing a rebuild. Mainly because of its apart the one thing I really wanted was it balanced. High rpm reliability should go up. And let the builder upgrade that parts he thinks will matter.
Great looking car btw.
