new pcm as of 5/21/04

just left the mazda dealer : Went to have the flash update on my 1 week old 8. The guys where very nice and i ask them about the new update metioned on here on 5/29/03. he checked with mazda through the internet and found there was a new one issued 5/21/04. he tried to download it but was unable and being a holiday there was no one at mazda to call. so they did update my car to the newest they had ( even though mine was one week old it did not have the newest one)and i will have to return to get newest newest one. also i ask them to check the oil since i had put 1000 miles on it already. we all asummed it would need some after that amount of miles but to our surprize it was correct and had not burned any oil. I love my 8 and think i got a good one ,even if it is automatic , it has great power , which i think has been incressed with all the new pcm updates. i have no complaints.

(6spMAN)- I got updated on the 22nd to the n flash. (good post banana, I should i have mentioned this last week, doh! sorry) Anyway, the good news it is put back the 7000rmp burst of power the m took away from the k version I orginaly had. I was pleasently surprised.....i didn't wanna get flashed with another gas saving power reducing dud. Take a run down to your dealer, I recommend it.

Hmm, I went in for a 12000 mile oill change and tire rotation/balance and asked for the latest pcm flash. Went in expecting M, guess I got N instead. There is definately more power there. Second gear (where I thought the AT was lacking) pulls much better than before. I'm very happy to see that Mazda is fixing their pcm snafu, even if it does come piecemeal.

You want somebody to link this thread in the other one I linked to above?
OR you want this thread to link to the link that the other thread linked to before this thread linked there?

This thread can probably be merged with the other one too, if that's what you mean... once a mod gets around to it.

By the sounds of it this is genuine and everybody will believe it by the end of the week. Just the screams of frustration from the canzoomer camp will be enough to get everybody's attention.

liquid - which was 'it'? How many have the "N" flash? maybe I need to cruise over to CZ's vendor area and see if he's posted about it yet[ if there is a "N" guess I'll be needing the cables even sooner than I thought]

If you read the linked thread it refers to a MRI/TSB. In the text it mentions this repair was addressed in the 29.0.11 update. All cars with the "M" flash have this sorfware already installed.

The 35.1 DOES NOT include a "N" flash.

What you saw when the tech showed you the screen was the entire list of issues addressed by ALL the reflashes.

so wonder what update i had installed today , my car was only a week old and he said that it needed the update to the newest one he had ( this was verified by the computer). and when he checked the site there was a new one issued that he was unable to download. so i have to return for another one , he acted like it was no big deal i could just wait for a service visit, but i am thinking of taking it back wed. . Thanks for clearing that up for me Snap-on.

Find out the WDS version. Any flash updates are contained in new WDS updates - most dealers don't know an L flash from an M flash, but they can easily tell you what their current WDS version is. From that other thread and SnapOn's post, it looks like the latest WDS update still contains M as the latest RX-8 flash (remember, WDS supports all the Mazda products - a new WDS version could contain new flashes for the Mazda6 or Mazda3 without updating the RX-8 flash version).

Regards,
Gordon

Your car is at least 1 month old and maybe even older. It takes about 1 month for the cars to get to US and thats just on the boat, it may have sat for weeks in the states and in Japan before and after transit. I would bet Mazda is sending the cars over with the current (when car was built) firmware so that the port does not have to do it. This would save money over paying the company at port to hit each car. So after the car leaves the plant it won't be updated until you get your dealer to do it. That just a guess but it can't see Mazda flashing the car at the factory only to pay a seperate company to Re-Flash the car when it comes off the boat.

Look on the door sill sticker I believe it has the build date or at least the build month. If not see if you dealer can look it up for you.

Confused

Does all the above mean that the latest version is the M version discussed in service bulletin 01-011/04 issued 4/12/04?

Also is there a list of MRI's as opposed to Service Bulletins or are they the same thng?
