New owner... Where is my wheel key
Hi guys. I'm looking to do the old plug/wires/coils thing shortly so I know my new (to me) 2007 has that taken care of. I've read great tutorials on it and it looks like I'll need to get the driver side front wheel off to do the plugs more easily. Is there a standard spot where the wheel key is kept in our 8's? In the trunk is a flat tire kit with an electric pump, but I didn't see it there, or with the jack. Hopefully the dealer didn't lose it. Now that I think of it, the manual mentioned that it may come with a wheel key, suggesting that some models don't have one/need one.

Mine was in a white plastic bag with the old lugs that where changed when the new locking ones were installed. This was in the jack compartment(if you will) right as you open the trunk. You might want to look in the glovebox as well?????????
Well.....look at you lug nuts on your wheel(s) and see if you have a locking one or not...........maybe you don't?
There will only be one per wheel.

Little bothersome that he doesn't even know if he really needs one.
BTW.......OP........some people just turn the wheel to get at them.
I prefer to take the wheel off, but there are many ways to do this.
Some even just do it from the top.

Relax a bit. I just looked and no, I actually don't have the lug nut requiring it I just assumed it was there since every car I've owned past the mid-nineties had one.
Good for getting to the plugs and great for the thieves! Which RX-8's came with the keyed lugnut? Did they start doing that on a specific year?

Out on a limb, but I'm guessing you may have a base model and that's why.
I know that my 05 manual GT came with them.
What year and trim you have?
BTW.......you gotta have fairly thick skin on this forum.....as I'm sure you've seen already.
Do you have stock rims?

Anyway, it was advertised as the Touring, though I'm thinking it's actually the base (sport?) model. Still learning the ins and outs of the different types. It does have the stock wheels though.

I think locks were standard, but they were installed by the dealer as part of pre-delivery prep.
My key came in a plastic bag along with a card giving the code, an order form for a spare, and a plastic tether that's supposed to be used to attach the key to the lug wrench.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm supposed to have a key, it's generally 1 lugnut that looks different from the others that takes it, right? All mine look exactly the same.

My rx8 did not come with wheel locks. Never even knew that this is an option on some models. Anyway, i may have to get some wheel locks to protect my wheels from thieves.

Looky here fast frederick, the name calling can cease now. Dumb people? Nice. I apologized for doing so, but quite honestly you have to know that the folks on this forum who flame people for something like that have absolutely no life and sit in front of their monitor in their mom's basement with their pants around their ankels hitting refresh on their browser just hoping a new topic will appear, and if somehow it doesn't pass their test, berate the person. Are they really THAT inconvenienced by the question? I mean seriously?
That being said, I'm certainly one for searching proir to asking. It's not like it's out in left field to assume the car comes with a keyed lugnut... I mean seriously, that's been standard on every car I've owned that wasn't a beater. So yes, I ASSumed. I was more concerned as to where the thing might be hidden so I could determine whether the dealer or previous owner had lost it.
Ok, I feel better. On with the show folks!

Duh, how freakin hard was it to bend down and take a LOOK before you posted the question ,If that isnt basic searching what is? Just for your info, when you have to add oil to your engine, it's the yellow cap that has "oil" written on it.
And yes, while its pissing rain here, I do sit here in my mom's basement waiting for folks from the Appalachian mountains to post tardo questions so I can flame them and feel cosy .

Ha ha ha...your funny.
Do the wheel locks came standard on all model years? I did not know that. I bought the car without the wheel locks. Anyway, i'll just get my own wheel locks then.
