New owner as well....Howzit from Hawaii

Since the new RX-8 owners are introducing themselves, I might as well join the fun....

Just got a new 09 RX-9 GT on an impulse buy. And because I got the boss' (wife) blessing. Now she's learning to drive a stick...

Some random thoughts:

1. Damn, I missed Kane while he was in Hawaii. I wanted to see his turbo RX-8
project. Kane-- be safe on your deployment.

2. Calling all Hawaii RX-8 members. Do you guys have an RX-8 club locally and
does anyone race in SCCA autox? BTW, sorry about your accident
Naughtyone.

3. I'm jealous of all you 2004-08 owners because you guys have the rotary
emblem in the front and back. How can I put some style on my 09?

4. Love the LED taillights...

5. Jealous also of all you members with long stretches of highway and
canyon roads with no cops in sight.

6. Engine and drivetrain finally feels broken in after 800 miles. Already used
1 1/4 quart of oil. Does this sound normal?

7. Averaging 15-16 mpg but who cares cause I'm having a blast driving the 8.

Finally, just wanted to thank this forum and all the members for their knowledge base and comaraderie. Aloha and much mahalos.

U guys and your warmth... damn you!

LOL - I do enjoy driving long back roads though.... plus we have streets with lights and 60 MPH speed limits.....so I like to be first in line.

Keep it sleazy Hawaii!

^ How'd it handle it in the rain? Do you have the Dunlops as tires?

It actually handled pretty well on the stock Bridgestone Potenza tires. No sliding at all. I actually had my best run in the rain (maybe because I didn't have the instructor riding with me= less weight and I was more comfortable driving it faster on my 4th run). The fast cars with slicks were hydroplaning all over the place! lol.

And on the Bridgestones no less. Those have a reputation of being junk in anything but dry. Did you leave the DSC/TC on?

Topgear. Quick question. If I change out my stock wheels to something like 18x8.5 or wider, will that bump me from the BS class to the STU class?
