Mazda did not divulge any information with the two images it officially released, so we can't tell you what's under the hood of the RX-8 RS, whether the engine is an update of the current Renesis motor or an all-new one. The Detroit Auto Show starts on Sunday, at which time all will be revealed.

It's a pretty reserved update in styling, but I think it looks nicely fresher.

I've owned two cars in my life with Recaro seats, and if they actually put those into a production RX8, I might even trade my '04 for a new one. Those seats are the most comfortable, driver oriented things that I ever sat in. Cool.

I noticed that too! Could this mean it actually is a different engine though?

Update looks good though. The front end doesn't look as messy, the tailights look FAR better, and the seats look like a minor upgrade, but an upgrade, gauges look a little updated. All in all, looks good, and I had to say it, cleaner than our cars.

Just hope it has the 1.6!

I'm not a fan of the wheel either. The clear side markers will go when it hits the states, will the auto climate control stay?

Love the front end, love the sideskirts, rear is ok, wheels are bizzare, seats/upholstery is nice, guages and wheel look cheap/worse than original. Overall i do like it though, mainly cuz of the front end and skirts. Would look badass lowered another 1.5 inches or so.

ITs the same one as their *current* production. CX-7, CX-9. all got the same steering wheel.

I echo most of the sentiments here. Love the red-stitching leather! the steering wheel is terrible. hated it on the mx-5 because it's so cx-7/9 thing. now it's in the rx-8. headlights a bit generic. the body treatment is overall more aggresive. not bad at all for a restyle.

... and the pseudo oil pressure gauge is gone - instead of making it functional.

Thought I heard there was gonna be a real oil pressure gauge. Oh well, at least the fake one's gone. But doesn't it seem like there's too much empty real estate on the gauge panel now?

Agree about the steering wheel. Ugly.

I think it's because the average driver still doesn't understand how those work. If the needs keeps moving (as it should) they'll think something's wrong.
In other words...I blame the stupid people
