EPA: New MPG Calculation, Sticker Coming for 2008
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=118805
I like the fact that the old methods last revision was in 1984. I wonder which cars this will have an major impact on, hybrids, diesels and otherwise?

i was reading about this on USA Today the other day, they said hybrids are gonna be hit the hardest with this new formula, they're estimating that the Toyota Prius' highway rating will drop to about 41mpg... yes that's right folks, you'll be paying over 8000 more over a 37mpg Corolla just to get 4 more mpg out of a tank...

I get about 16/25 on average in real world driving
I've never been on the highway for a full trip, but the best I've done with alot of highway was 22.5 and I've been dying to ask fellow RX8 folks what is the best they have gotten going 75MPH on the highway.
But, in the city as most of you know I get pretty dang good 19mpg...for a rotary that is.

I drove from Baton Rouge to Shreveport LA, 240 miles, and averaged 19.2MPG over the trip, nothing but interstate driving. I had the cruise set on 78 almost the entire way.

There has to be something wrong with my car since I've averaged about 14-15mpg mixed driving since owning my RX8. It has a tic over 2000 miles now.
Mileage better improve or else I'm going to have to cut down on the "just taking the car around the block".......

Pre 4206F: 17-18 mpg all city
Post 4206F: 14-15 mpg all city
Spirited back roads (i.e the 150 mile round trip to my brother's house) keeping the revs 3.5-5.5k the whole way with occasional redlines: 23mpg. No change with the recall.

My daily drive;
2 miles, 2 stops to the freeway.
42 miles with cruise nailed to 73 MPH.
4 miles down country hiighway, no traffic 55-60 steady speed.
Drive home is just the reverse.
I get 21 MPG almost on the nose. If I do a 2nd gear redline and 8000 in 3rd getting on the highway, along with a strong pull from a few other stops it drops to 20 MPG.
Best trip mileage with cruise locked at 65 MPH station-to-station was 23 MPG.
M6 with 13,000 miles.
My CX7 in the same daily cycle gets 23 MPG.
I drove my wife's 5 for a week and got 27 MPG.
I doubt that Mazda will meet the CAFE requirements given the new EPA test cycle.

Wow, then the RX8 will get even more bad press come 2008 because many complain about 14-16mpg, with the new ratings let's say of 15-23 the RX8 is going to look like a pig fuel economy wise.
If it had a bigger top end mpg rating it wouldn't be so bad, but again personally, driving at 75MPH on cruise control I doubt I could get the 24mpg the EPA listed for the car.

no matter how i drive, how much city or how much highway i do, i always get about 16.7 mpg.
I kid you not. I'm calculating it right (miles driven on tank / gallons put in tank at fill up). This hogs gas like no tomorrow. Our cx7 is also terrible on gas. If mazda could get their **** together and start making some marginally fuel efficient cars they would be a much better contender.

Folks we own a sports car. Do we really care about mpg or do we just like hearing it zoom-zoom as we climb towards redline?
Personally I wouldn't mind more HP for a few less MPG.
BTW my other car is a Prius and I average about 42 mpg highway/city driving. It is for sale in the Louisville area. Sorry off thread.
