UK New member in need of some advice please

Hi guys,
I am looking to buy an RX-8 231PS, I have found this one on ebay and I am quite interested to fix it up and keep it.

How hard is it to fix the problem the seller has descibed:

THE RX8 NEEDS A NEW OXYGEN LAMBA SENSOR...IT BEGAN MALFUCTIONING LAST WEEK JUST BEFORE THE MOT...I HAVE AN ECU READER AND SHOWED A MALFUNCTION ON THE SENSOR....I CLEARED THE FAULT BUT IT STILL NEEDS THE SENSOR AS IT HAS PUT THE CAR IN SAFETY MODE....(HALF POWER AND 60 MPH LIMIT....PART IS 260 FROM MAZDA OR 50 ON EBAY BUT I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIT ONE ERROR CODES ARE PO139 OXYGEN SENSOR AND PO410 AIR INJECTION

FOR ANYONE WHO IS NOT SURE....THE SENSOR READS OXYGEN LEVELS IN THE EXHAUST AND CAT CONVERTER....THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAT OR EXHAUST BUT BECAUSE THE SENSOR IS BROKEN THE CAR THINKS THERE IS....ITS A VERY SMALL PART

EASY FIX AT MAZDA BUT IDEAL FOR SOMEONE MECHANICALLY MINDED TO DO FOR NEXT TO NOTHING
Cheers

Sounds like an easy fix for anyone who somewhat mechanically inclined.

If you look hard enough, you'll find horror stories about evey car on the market.

Do some research around here. Read the stickies. Find RIWWP's new and potential owners thread. Decide for yourself if it's worth the risk, or if you feel as if there's a risk at all.

The hardest thing about changing the O2 sensor is reaching it.
The RX8 has two O2 sensors a front and a rear.
The rear sensor is located in the catalytic and is easy to replace using a (22mm I think) spanner.

However if its the front O2 sensor your going to need a special tool that can reach up to the O2 sensor which is located on the exhaust header.

You can find an online shop manual at www.blachhaloracing.com
