FL New to me 8

06 Manual with 21K. Leather Grand Tour Package $14K. Looked like it came off the showroom floor when I bought it. I've been reading the stickies and researching for a while before I pulled the trigger. Guess I'm going with what I think the consensus is on all the major sticking points on the 8.

No premix. Got a 100K Warranty and no empirical proof premixing actually prevents or even helps premature engine failure. Might do it if I had an older model that had high miles on it, but not this one.

Accept poor gas millage. Although my first tank looks like it's gonna yield about 20 or maybe a little more. Will know in a couple days. Didn't buy it for the millage anyway or I would have bought the civic.

Drive the hell out of it. Not really, but I do plan to give it about once a tank red line treatment to help knock the carbon out of the engine. Hopefully no tickets for this treatment. I guess I could use that as my excuse to the officer. I have to drive the car like this to prevent engine failure. See what that gets me.

Anyway so far so good with this one. These cars are really fun to drive.

Welcome.

If you get better than 20mpg buy a new calculator.

You don't have to break the speed limit to get to redline.

Ha. I guess I need a new calculator. I got 24-25 on my drive home yesterday from Washington.

^^^ thats crazy i never get that good... 20 isnt unheard of tho.

And yea like they said above, you dont need to be speeding to redline, just redline in first or 2nd. And you should redline once a day

Congrats and Welcome. I would love to get near 20, as I average around 15 (mostly city driving), but I don't care. Gas is a small cost for joy and stress relief.
Although if you are getting 24= something is off with your math, unless you are driving the entire trip at 60 on cruise control an almost no engine starts and stops.

It was all freeway miles. Cruised at about 70 the entire way. I got almost 350 miles to each tank. I know it won't stay at 24 when driving around town though, not even close.

All due respect, I call BS. 350 miles on a tank? Unless you bought the 8 with the golden ticket in the gas tank, there is something wrong with your numbers.

Im getting about 18-20 on each of the first 4 tanks, mix of city and highway driving. The highway stuff I am looking forward to, I think I will be able to get about 22-24 if the car keeps running like it is.

But i haven't taken that road trip yet so I have no idea...

I can handle simple math. I reset the trip and got 326 on the first tank and nearly 350 on the second.

Well 19 was what I got first tank. Less than that second tank, but I had a good time getting less than 19 on some back roads and a empty subdivision. Here are a couple pics off the craigslist add. I will clean it up and take some better ones later. Got some bug spatter on the front now. Summer in FL and the bugs are back. Love it so far, and people do look twice at the RX8. Had a couple people say "nice car man". I might buy a trunk lid with a factory wing/spoiler for it. I think it makes the car look better, but others disagree. Figure if a end up not liking it, just put the other one back on.
