New Mazdaspeed 3
How can Mazda still consider the RX-8 their "SPORTS' car when the new speed 3 has over 30 more h.p., more torque, and a higher top speed; not to mention a quicker 0-60 time? I am a current Mustang owner looking to buy a new RX-8, but the introduction of the new speed 3 has got me wondering what is the better car out of the RX-and the speed 3. Is anyone out here on the forum considering getting rid of their RX-8 in favor of the Speed 3? The Speed 3 also costs thousands less. Is Mazda planning to up the horsepower on the RX-8 also?

When the MS-8 comes out things will be differant....we all wish we knew when...keep the stang til then...unless you can find a MS dealer with a good price on the 3 til it comes out.

Dude, I see a huge difference between the MS3 and RX-8! And I would choose the RX-8 over a MS3 any day even if they didn't increase the HP/TQ. Open your eyes man!

Knock yourself out
We don't know if the MS8 will come out, but what can Mazda do to the rotary to make it faster AND pass emissions? Not much. There's direct injection, but how much is that going to help?
Solution for 8 owners who love their car: b00st

Gawd I'm old!
When did "speed" equate to sports cars? Sports cars are in my definition fun to drive, all around total packages. Not hopped-up econo boxes. Think original Corvettes, MG GTs, Alfa Spyders, Miata, etc.
The original Mustangs and Camero were never sports cars. The RX8 may actually be closer to the Jensen Interceptor which was a Sports Touring.
I think the the new Speed3 is great but it's not a sports car.

Why bother with the MS3 even, go get a Mustang if all you care about is power. Fact of the matter is, I don't care how much power you shove into these econoboxes and how much you try to offset those big lunking pistons from their usual front end position. It will never FEEL as heavenly good as the RX-8 does when the revs start rising and the corner starts approaching. I agree that a sports car should be more about the feel and the fun then a bunch of numbers on paper. The RX-8 excels tremendously in both and is just bloody ridiculously stupid fun to drive. I have so much fun in mine I should be outlawed from it.

Also, Mazda prides itself on their engineering (continuing to develop the rotary engine when everyone else in the world abandoned it), going "against" conventional industry wisdom (introducing a small RWD sports car when everyone said they were dead) and, as others have said, developing sports cars that handle well and offer a unique and wonderful feel. The RX-8 is their "halo" car because it demonstrates their commitment to engineering and innovation more than any other vehicle they sell. Whether it's the fastest or not doesn't matter. No other car in their lineup—or in the world, for that matter—feels like an 8 when you drive it.

Someone please kill this thread! DIE DIE DIE~! Get a mustang or SKY Redline if all you want is HP and 0-60. Yes the MS3 is irksome on paper but it's Front Wheel drive, NOT a rotary, etc. etc. You will not LOVE torque steer, trust me. There is a reason for RWD and AWD sports cars, nuff said. Have you seen a FWD porsche lately? This thread was already done to death.

But try viewing things from a different angle perhaps.
Would you want to go from a Stang to a Wagon / Hatchback?
The neighbors would say "Uh Oh, looks like machfive is getting married soon!!!"
NO THANKS!
Rx8 is a full experience. Including all the "wows" you'll get. It's a very satisfying car to own. MS3? Eh, you may not be able to say the same.

Why does Hatchback = "Whipped"? Why would you care what your neighbors think anyways? Do you base your car purchases primarily on how other people will view you? It's nice to get compliments on your car and to have a car that you find aesthetically pleasing, but you've got a problem when that's your #1 priority.
In that case you should find yourself a nice Jaguar, or maybe just invest in a set of Spinnaz for a Chevy Cavalier and move to Detroit.
