NY New Here (sorry about the length)

so a while ago i picked up an 04 mazda Rx-8 and i love it drives amazing sounds great and runs like a champ

it is the grand touring edition

it has 80K :-o but the way it looks and feels i feel like im driving an brand new car...

its silver with black interior and i will have pics up tomorrow

ive been lurking on the site using the search button to find answers decided it was time to introduce myself and see whats up

a little more about me
im 18 years young and it doesnt mean im reckless i just really like cars and do what i can to get them. when i turned 16 i took all my money id saved during my life to by a car... an 02 mustang with 120K auto :-X and then dropped 2k on it in parts... not such a good idea tell me about it but about a month after owning it a drunk lady rear ended me totalling my car out... lost 1000 dollars in a month i was pissed. so after that i decided i liked to looks of gen 2 eclipses and with my insurance money i bought one and about 6 months after driving thsat i got an offer to sell it for more then i bought it for. so i did and decided to take a stab at a 3000gt i loved the car to say the least i bought it non running and completly rebuilt the engine with all oem parts. then again sold it for more then i had into it (amazing car)... then decided RWD was my callingand bought an 00 mastang GT 5speed was a great car (no posi) and with some money i saved from working bought a project car a 1990 240sx after i got the car running i decided i would make it my daily and i sold the mustang for a profit... now it was time for a bike ... well having a bike that my gf is scared of and a beat *** daily that she hates didnt fly to well so i sold the bike for like 200 more then i bought and decided i was going to take all my money i had saved and my bike money and a small loan to buy a new car... first instinct was a 350z seeing i loved my 240sx so much but once i drove an rx8 it was all over... i bought it the next day. and according to this site it seems as alot of the engines die at fairly low milage... im not to worried about it. i already own it i already love it and if i have to get my hands dirty then i will....

note(still own the 240sx with plans on an SR20DET swap after winter)

as for the 8
i'm thinking i may want an exhaust.(not necessary)
ill prolly roll on stock shocks with new springs unless you guys think i need new shocks
black my badges out cause im not loving the look of silver and chrome
and i would love my stock 18's powder coated black
mazda speed intake
SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

im not that famillair with the rotary engine but if i need to learn i can learn quick and im definatly down for anything

i live in SYRACUSE NY and would love to meet anyone who is into 8's or 7's or needs help working on them id love to give them a hand....

Both the touring and grand touring should have a 6 cd changer. Grand touring is also the only package with leather.

For your other questions, they can be answered by simple searches, and just roaming around the multimedia and aftermarket sections.

^ The FAQ thread to start you off.

Welcome.

That is because it is a single disc player that can be swapped out for a 6 disc changer. It was not standard in any of the models from 04.

Welcome and really do read the FAQ and search on topics. The rotary in the 8 is a good engine, but it is higher maintenance than most piston engines. The fastest way to get no answers from the veterans on here is to be a noob and to not research first.

If that is the case, I stand corrected!

I thought the 04 Touring package and above had 6 disc cd changer standard .

FREE, got it under warranty.

Rosenthal Mazda probably has the cheapest price...http://www.finishlineperformance.com...cat=338&page=2 And you could swap it out yourself in about 20 mins if you have the needed tools.

Since your car is out of warranty, the first thing I'd find is a good mechanic who in your area that is not the dealer. Check out the regional forums. Members there might be able to point you toward a good mechanic. I find dealers to charge really high rates and provide varying degrees of service.

At least you could get a quote from the dealer and someone else.

Is yours a manual and what price did you pay? Make sure to post some pics, even if from a camera phone.

Buy some Idemitsu premix, go to 5w30 weight oil, seafoam it, and save up about $4000.00 grand incase your engine dies out of warranty. That is all for now.

Welcome aboard, you still have engine warranty until 100k so if you see any signs of power loss get it checked out. Also, try to drive a new RX8 and see if the power and feel seems the same. My first engine felt okay but when I drove a buddies car at the track I realized I had power loss. When I got the car back after the new engine it was a totally different car.

It would not hurt, just tell them you are experiencing power loss and stumbling idle otherwise they might try charge you the diagnostic fee.

I checked the brochure for the 2008 model and all Tourings and GT come standard with the 6 CD changer. If CarAndDriver is correct, then Mazda must have made some changes to the packaging prior to the 2008 model.

Good deal on the car and congrats! Great price imo. I hope you get many more miles on your engine. But with the deal you got its not like it matters too much.

welcome! will be looking forward to the pics! glad to hear you say that you're searching. keep reading and learning and you'll find that you enjoy the car so much more when you understand its design elements and appreciate it for what it is.
