New guy to the scene gets lucky

Read this please. Good story and I need your help...
_______________________________________________

What's up?

For starters, I'm sorry to sound so lame but it's kinda hard to sound like yourself when you're new to the area and new to RX-8s.

I'm from San Diego and been here about a year now. Had several RX-7s as a kid and forgot about the passion I have for the RX line. So in a recent test drive of the family wagons I noticed an RX-8 sitting there and asked if I could take it out for a spin. The salesmen agreed and off we went.

I started to notice something odd on the drive about the sound and handling of the car and kelp my mouth shut. I asked the salesmen where he got it and he said they just got it from an auction that day. They haven’t even done the inspection on it yet.

When I got back to the dealership I told the salesmen I wanted it and when he walked away to start the paper work I silently started a brief inspection.

After looking at it, I noticed this was someone baby. It was dark outside so I don't have all of the details but here is what I can tell you about this diamond in the rough:

1. Jet black RX8 with a weird black Mazda emblem (powder coated) on the back.

2. Limo Tint windows all the way around

3. A weird black shifter on a short throw

4. after market pedals clutch, break, and gas.

5. After market neon blue lighting for the dash and console and I can change all of the dash and internal light colors with three different selections. Orange, green and neon blue.

1.) It has 2 carbon fiber after market stabilizers. One in the back and one over the top of the engine of course.

2.) It has what looked like a REVi cold ram air intake, red in color.

3.) It has what appears to be a 3" aftermarket exhaust from front to back.

4.) Oversized disc (breaks) hiding under the stock rims.

5.) It's been lowered like 1.5 to 2 inches on a real stiff suspension.

6.) It has what feels like a ceramic clutch. Real touchy and when I'm rolling at 50MPH on the test drive I popped the clutch and laid rubber for about 30 feet. Also it doesn't just lay rubber when I take off from a dead stop. There seems to be this strong buck like the car is coming off the ground like it's trying to pop a wheelie or something. It may be a broken/failing axel, clutch but it doesn’t feel like it. Feels extra powerful.

7.) It has a deeper than normal throaty sound which sounds like it may have some porting and headers. I don't know for sure.

And a few other things.

Anyone able to take a peek at this to see what's going on? Do you guys have meetings or get togethers? Etc. Thanks!

Bought it. The dealership sold it with only 22k miles on it for $16,995. I couldn't pass up the car in that good of a shape, with those add ons, with that few miles.

Thank god it already has the limo tint all the way around. EVERY 8 should have pitch black tint all around, who gives a damn if it's illegal.

Hey there!

Glad to see another Arizona RX8 owner! Be sure to check out the AZ thread in the region section. Otherwise head over to www.azmazdaclub.com and register on there as well. We have a very active local mazda group and I think you'll be happy to see everything we do.

Welcome back to owning a rotary!

I'm willing to bet they could give you a concussion if you stepped on them hard enough.

My father has a yukon that probably weighs 4 times as much as my car and the rotors are probably a couple inches smaller in diameter than the RX's.

Congrats and good luck, sounds like you discovered a car you really wanted!

(And it sounds like you have an idea of what mods you like. Personally I'd pass on a car that's been modded—heavily modded, even more. Are they the best mods? Were they installed properly? What are the unintended consequences of the mods? Was a car that's been modded driven harder, increasing wear on brakes, tranny and other components? Will any of the mods invalidate the factory warranty, or make it hard to get warranty service? Anyway, that's just me. Have fun!)

A lot of us have been lucky. Just subtract the number of "I've been unlucky" posts from the total number of members.

I will get pics, I've just been real busy at work and home lately.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. For those who are asking it's an 04.

Oh and by the way...(I just found out)....either the original owner had a sense of humor and dressed this Rx8 up, or it's a Mazdaspeed. Is there anyway to be sure? The only reason I'm asking is because there is a lable on the back that says Mazda speed, the emblem on the back is black and not chrome, and there is a carbonfiber sway bar over the engine, and something that appears to be a body kit. .)
