New guy with an R3 question

Hello all I am currently looking at a 2010 R3 at a Chicagoland dealership with 9000 miles on it.The only problem is the car has heated leather seats. Were they available at all in the R3,or were they all Recaro seats?
Thanks
Billy

The R3 only came with Recaro seats. I have seen that R3 for sale, it appears they swapped in seats from a GT along with the seat heater switches and shifter trim. The Recaro's are tough on fat people so someone probably was uncomfortable in them.

Hmmm.. it does have the switches for the heated seats in the center console though.Could it be the car isn't an R3? How else can I tell from pictures?

Billy,

It just means they swapped everything in that was needed as 9k said. Check out this thread, which we think is probably the seats from that R3: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-sale-wanted-44/2009-rx8-r3-factory-oem-recaro-seats-225917/

There has been quite a bit of discussion over that particular car.

Thanks, but that thread has nothing to do with the car I'm looking at.He said he put in cloth seats in the car in that thread, these are leather.

Well at least it has GT seats and the switches, the other R3 that had the seats removed had cloth seats put in it which is a downgrade if you ask me. Though the leather seats are not preferred by many due to the weight, I think they are more upscale and if you live in a cold climate you might enjoy them.

I would check the car out to make sure other R3 only interior items are not missing. The price is decent though if the car is in good shape.

I would say yes for a 2010. But to me the lack of the Recaro's takes away from the car. The R3 will be a collectible car some day and if the Recaro's are gone that will hurt this particular car's future worth.

I would get a proper original R3 with the Recaro seats.
the seats are 80% of the driving experience.

That sounds like a fair price to me assuming the compression checks out, which isn't to say you shouldn't try to haggle a little bit.

OP: Personally, I would not buy an R3 without the Recaros -whether they are comfortable or not, but that's a different argument all together. There have been many debates about this issue recently, but I feel the Recaros are a unique and distinctive feature of the R3. And after learning those seats are worth several thousands of dollars, good grief, I would definitely never buy an R3 without them. Look into other things they may have swapped in the interior.

Also, heated leather seats are definitely useful in cold climates - Recaros are leather but not heated. The leather feels colder than regular seats at first, but after you turn the switch it quickly warms up the leather and it is very comfortable - personally, I feel much more comfortable than regular seats in cold weather.

Other people have other opinions about whether or not leather seats are really worth it. Overall, I think they give the car a more "upscale" look as 9krpm mentioned above.

But choose whatever feels right for you and enjoy it!!!

You should decide if you want that car.
If you decide that you do want it, negotiate the price lower by about $2500 because of the missing seats. They are expensive.

So price wise, what should this car sell for with the Recaro's. I am very green on the RX8 pricing. Other cars nearby which are R3's, are listed at around 23-24k.
Thanks

Aw hell naw.

I wouldn't buy an R3 without the Recaros. It's already been bastardized by some jerkbag.
Who knows what else he cannibalized off it...

I like to have heated seats, specially if its really cold. Anyway, if its not the original seats, then you should negotiate to lower the price, or have them changed it to its original seats, or look somewhere else, good luck.

Any RX8 clamming to be an R3 that does not have the equiment, all of it, it is supposed to have it is not an R3.... I own on!!!

If it does not have the seat, knock 7k per seat off the asking price.
the air bags and other things must not be over looked. I have seen at lease 9
RX8 being sold as R3 that were not R3s, dont buy that ****. want to know what

Terrible attempt at a rant. Next time, try to be more coherent. Although I did like how you valued two seats as 66% of the entire car's value. Well played.

Well, those numbers were a but inflated for sure.

OP: get a price quote from Mazda itself for the Recaros. Then use that number to negotiate the price down.

Trust me, the number will be several thousand dollars
