New Engine

New Engine
Hello
I work for a company that designs and builds electric vehicles. We are looking into buying a new RX-8 and converting it. This would leave us with a new engine sitting around which may be useful to an RX-8 owner looking for a fun project. Would anyone be interested in such an engine? What would you be willing to pay for such an engine?
Thanks

By "new", you are referring to an off-the-lot 2009, 2010, or 2011?
Series 2 (2009+) engines are fairly rare, so getting an exact price might be difficult to pinpoint.
Series 1 engines are usually in the $1,500 to $3,000 range, depending on condition, history, etc... Series 2 engines are superior to series 1 engines in terms of durability, so I expect that there would be at least a few people itching to convert their series 1 RX-8 over to the Series 2 engine, but I am not aware of anyone doing so yet, so it would be a project. Since we haven't really heard of series 2 engines failing yet (doesn't mean they won't, or even that they haven't), there is also probably not nearly the buying market for one either.
Tough call to make there. Hopefully someone thinking about it might chime in with a realistic price.

The 2009+ engine will not work in the 2004-2008 model of the car. It is possible, but it would be a difficult retrofit.

Agreed it is not a direct swap. There would be more market for it if it was. It would be a project to undertake, but I suspect that it has been seriously considered by at least a few here. Which is why I mention that part. Might be the only viable market for it since 2009s are so far from warranty expiration.

Go to ebay and search for "renesis rx8 engine" and you will see what they are selling for ballpark. Also in the classifieds here. Good luck.

"Joking" posts when someone outside the community comes in and asks a legitimate question does not give the community a good image. If you can't provide a serious answer, please stay in the lounge threads.
