Dont you realize the engine with the original flash and same setup it comes stock with made 250 hp. right now its running at 238hp. Its not much of a jump, you should not feel the extra power if any at all, but the new flash is reported to pass emissions. Dont you guys read anything, or talk to the technitions? I guess not. I don't know much about my car, but it seems more than all of you!

ok, you guys obviously are not taking this serious enough...but I heard there may be some draw backs to the new flash...

If you flush your toilet and it swirls clockwise, you get the 250 hp upgrade, but if it swirls counter clockwise then you get 13 mpg, so I'd be very carefull about getting this new flash until you check your toilet...

THe problem is you're listening to a guy making 15 bucks an hour instead of the real results and user experiences on this board.

The rx8 in it's current form really makes about 210-220 hp at the crank. Not anywhere near the original 250, the reduced 238 and this years 232.

Roaddemon May 5, 2006 01:51 PM

I've got the latest flash along with the new plugs, battery and starter. Yes it does run stronger throughout the power band. Almost like they installed a little turbo. Probably because it's running the way it's suppose to without cels etc. interfering. Gas mileage is really poor in cold weather. Nothing changed there. It's more of a summer car for sure.

I agree, mazda is also making the bucks, but do you think they they would BS us again like this like they did the first year? Sure, i can see that. But its not just the tech that is saying this, its also mazda corp. I have the 2004 6 speed, so i am at 238 at the crank, think about it.....

How about we all call our dealers instead of speculating what ONE technician said to a member of this board. He isn't the only Mazda Tech. in the world.

Actually, you are at 232 at the crank according to Mazda, the change from 238 to 232 has nothing to do with any change to the engine, it is simply a new way of measuring hp that is closer to the truth. Have you gotten the "new" flash yet? If you have, can you feel anything different? Even if it does increase the hp (which I continue to seriously doubt) it would have to be around 20 or more for you to feel it in meaningful way; if you can't feel the increase from "238" to "250" what difference does it make which it is?

no it didnt- 250 number is in ps which is 247 . as released for sale the car never made within the legal 5% of that hence the change to 238- which is within 5%.

Paul Yaw said he made close to 250 at the crank on an actual engine dyno with a stock engine. I dont know what he considers close but you could ask him. but that wasnt with the stock computer or coils and possibly a couple other things(see link in Mazdamaniac coil swap thread where Paul dicusses coil swap some time ago)

With the stock computer and completly stock intake /exhaust etc no one (including people who can change anything they want in the pcm programming) has made more than the current rating on an engine dyno.

simply isnt happening for cars already in use. could they do it for a future version of the car? possibly- but nothing will be available from Mazda to increase your power more than 1 or 2 as a side effect of someother reprogramming. Just isnt going to happen.

Ok, got my car back. The updated computer flash is done, new parts in trani, verdict, Cant feel much of a power increase if any at all, though its 10-12 HP. I guess i will have to take it to the track and compare numbers! I will keep you posted on the gas mil age.

I am shocked, dismayed and definitely not delighted.

jryeater May 10, 2006 08:10 PM

Has anyone else gotten the new flash? If so, any difference? I have, not much...

zoom44 May 11, 2006 12:45 AM

there is no new flash for anyone that had the recall work done and that didnt change anything that would effect driving performance.

If you mean latest flash, it came with the tsb for starter, plugs and battery upgrade for cold climate starts and flooding. It does not change hp.

10-12? You sure it's not 9-13? Maybe 8-11.5??? Peak? Below the curve? Average??

lmao :)

Come join us this Saturday for the St. Helen's run. I can scan your PCM for the flash number to see which one it is. My money is on the "R" flash.

no it did not. the flash levels mentioned in the tsb for cranks no start issued 12/1/2005

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...4-05-1448e.pdf

are the ones issued for the thermal damage recall 3305G in August 2005

http://www.finishlineperformance.com.../pdf/3305G.pdf

4 months earlier. they are still the latest flash levels and there wont be a new one anytime soon.

OK, I see my mistake. I had the flooding flash done in 2006 after a flood. Before that I had the thermal damage flash done in 2005. I mixed the dates because of the order I had them done.

zoom44 May 11, 2006 01:23 PM

still reads like you are not getting what im writing- you didnt get a flooding flash done in 2006 if you had already had the recall flash done in 2005- because there isnt anything newer to flash your car with. they just checked your PCMs level , found it was the most current and moved on.
