New computer flash?

hey all,
I was tooling around on here last night. I found a article on gas mileage and someone had posted why the RX8 has less power and fuel econ as advertised. It has to do with the computer software that has the engine run very rich to pass the emission standards. Why i am posting this, is do any of you know when or if there is going to be a new emission friendly flash so we can get our power and fuel economy back? If so, when do you think it will be available?
Thanks!

well, people might start flameing the shit out of you for asking something like that. Search for the most recent flash, or call your dealer. Trust me you aint gonna save much no matter what they do

I heard it was because of sythetic oil, the fact that oil pressure runs high (2 ticks past the middle), that we lost HP this year over last year's model, and you have to run premium gas.

;)

 Now we just need to get those auto rx8 owners to stop using ceramic muffler bearing so they can get some of their power back.

The muffler bearings are carbon fiber for '06 which is part of the reason why they gained some horsepower.

i heard it was because they switched from right handed screws and bolts to left handed ones

nycgps 05-02-2006 09:41 AM

I think they did it because Mazda's executives afraid of being killed by other auto manuf that if RX8 doing too well for its price point might take other's business away. :D :D :D :D

Its kind of amazing the way threads get morphed into strange and wonderous things. The lack of a well-tuned impulse generator is clearly the cause of the problem in reduced rpm when the engine is off.

the reason for low mpg is that the car will sometimes stay running after you've shut it down. Just listen for the tell tale fan noise.

Exactly! In fact, the '06 is worst because some times it will start up 10-20 minutes before you drive it. That wastes gas.

Hey, Just dropped my car off at the dealer last night to have my sincro from first two second fixed and my heater knob replaced (didn't work right), and i asked him about the flash. He told me that about 3 months ago there was a update. I asked him if my car has been done and what the new flash would do. He told me my car was not done, and it would bump my power back up near 250 at the crank, and improve my gas mileage but a small amount. Also, it might help my car run a little better on cold mornings or under extreme conditions. Hope its all true!

I heard that if you are a woman owner and you "flash" the technicians, they can do something to help you out. :Eyecrazy:

Pretty hard to believe. Let us know how it goes but don't be surprised if it doesn't feel all that different.

Big_Mike_4488 05-04-2006 01:29 AM

250 at the crank?? Are you sure he is flashing your car and not putting a turbo in?

Second that.

Hope you get it dyno'd b4 and after so you can nail that technician for raping your wallet en route to your arse.

I, too, hope mysql was joking. It make me laugh pretty hard. Scary if not.

stickman 05-04-2006 06:50 PM

Actually, on a 3000 pound car I do think you will notice a 20hp gain; I just don't think you are going to get a 20hp gain. I will be delighted to be wrong but I don't think I'm going to be delighted.
