Unhappy New Car Smell

It's a sad day....when I got in the car this morning I noticed that "new car" smell has vanished for the most part. This may have been accelerated due to driving with the windows down in the morning. I have right at 4K miles on her. New car smell is one of the best things about owning a new car and now it's gone...

yeah...but I don't think it's quite the same thing. It's "fake" new car smell.

If you could capture and bottle that "real" new car smell you would make a fortune! :D

If you have leather and want that new car smell again, get a good leather cleaner (make sure it's safe for your seats) and clean em up! Works like a champ!

DId you guys know that the new car smell is cooked under high pressure into every piece of the interior....i saw it on discovery...its crazy

...also, they said that the "new car" smell is a toxic carcinogen, so its probably best that it wore off.

I guess I need to watch the discovery channel more often

Good news though....my wife got in the car tonight and I asked her if it still smelled new. She said yes! I guess I'm just getting used to it!

Today I noticed that the smell seemed a little less noticable. But if I stick my head in the back seat and tacke a big whif, it smells like new car more than the front.
crazy.

the new car smell is due to the plasticizer in the dashboard and other polymer/plastic things you have in the car. I'm a Material Sci major and learned that last year. There is also probably some flame retardants in their too. (i think this info is correct).

EDIT: I was somewhat right, here is a site that tells all about the new car smell

Excellent post. I thought I had heard somewhere that it was due to outgassing -- your article confirmed it.

For cats with leather, the Zaino Leather In A Bottle not only does an awesome job of conditioning and moisturizing leather, but also leaves a VERY nice new leather smell that lasts for a week or so.

On that same topic, I don't like the Meguiar's wipes. I tried 'em out, and thought it looked really good. After 2 weeks my passenger seat (gets very little use) had streaks.

where can I get this brand at? I didn't have leather in my prelude so I really don't know what brand to use to keep ot clean and stop it from fading and cracking in the future. Thanks.

I lost my new car smell too!! Sad girl me!! I had to get premier and some kind of protectant that the dealer put on to protect the leather. But the first thing I noticed, no new car smell!! So sad?? Know any other products, or scents that have the new car smell?? .....so sad.
