New 8 member need help!!!

I'm just now getting onto this forum, I've had my rx8 for about 10 months, and I have had 2 tune-ups done on it, and I still am not satisfied with the results of those tune-ups, and was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me on specifics I should be asking about etc...I have a 2006 Gran Touring Ed., 6spd, 53k miles, lately its been running pretty shitty, even with premium gas, and oil checks every tank. I don't seem to be getting the normal amount of power I usually get, and also my coolant light keeps coming on even when the coolant level is just fine. Any advice that you guys have for me to get me up to speed with taking better care of this car?

never fear, Jedi is here!

first off, can you tell us what exactly was performed during these "tune ups"
2nd: what do you mean it's been "running shitty". What exactly is it doing? Does it feel like it's low on power? Do you have trouble accelerating at high RPM's? Does this happen when the car is cold? After long drives?

Do you have any warning lights on (aside from the coolant light)
does anything flash on your dash when it's not running right?
Do you have any aftermarket modifications?

Oh, and as for your coolant light: it's a common problem, the level sensor on the coolant bottle can go bad. The only real way to fix it is to replace the tank or disconnect it.

Jedi, to give you an overall description, but keeping it short...I live in the Northern Cali area, usually the weather isn't too cold in the winter, but I always let my car warm up for about 10 min prior to taking off for work. The two major things that I am noticing is higher RPM power seems weak, and also just the get up and go that it had when I first got it isn't the same. As far as the tune-ups go, both times I had the car in, the tech told me that they just ran some "tests" on performance output, and then check fluids, and wires, etc...I think I was worked over, because I had just come back from a deployment and wanted to just have the car looked over quickly after it had been a while since I last drove it. This is where I am needing some more advice on what exactly the main things to keep up on engine wise with this car. I did not purchase a warranty with the vehicle, but I have no problem spending the extra money to keep this car in tip top shape.

first, you dont need to warm it up that long.
second, high RPM power loss means the catalyst converter might be clogged up, if you are not getting any misfiring.
third, a "tune up" usually means changing spark plugs, plug wires, and ignition coils. you dont need a shop to check your fluids...

"warm up for about 10 minutes" - No need to run the engine any more than a minute before driving. You just need make sure you don't rev it hard until it is sufficietly warmed up.

"just come back from deployement" - Welcome back and thank you. How long did the car sit?

"high RPM seems weak" - about what RPM does that seem to start? The reason I ask is that our cars have a 3 stage intake and the third stage opens up around 6250. If that gets stuck or is slow to open due to carbon build up or sludge then the power will suffer. That happened to my RX8 around 60k miles. My solution thankfully was only just to run Techron cleaner through a few tanks and rev the wee out of it until it unstuck.

Oh, if your dealer told you they gave it a "tune up" and didn't at least change the plugs, you got taken advantage of. There really aren't any "tune ups" any more because the computers today do that constantly and changing the plugs is kind of the dealers way of throwing parts at a problem it doesn't have a diagnostic code for.

Other possible reasons coudl be clogged cat (not likely with your low miles) or a bad coil (common ailment of our cars).
