negotiate MS mods into sale/lease of RX8????

i am lo0oking to lease an RX8 soon.

I don't want to go nuts and mod the stink out of this car. i like to tinker with what i drive..but this car needs to stay for the most part..close to stock. for warranty reasons..and since i'm leasing it..i don't want to waste money on mods.

i was considering the MS flywheel. sounds like it adds a nice little bit of perfoermance...but the labor is a PITA.

i wonder if at the time i negotiate the sale, I could get the dealer to install it for free..assumign I pay for the parts. given that labor is maybe something they can just write off...they can alwasy have their techs do it...and not really be "out of pocket" cash that shows up on the books... or can they?

any of you succesfully negotiate for extras to get thrown into the car like MS mods?

obviously, negotiate the PRICE of the car first...but as a final way to squeeze somethiun else out of them...would this be doable?

You can not residualize the MS parts. In other words . . buy them after you lease the car, put them on, and take them off when you return the car after the lease. If not . . you gonna get raped

Are you kidding?

A dealer will not give out free labor.

I mean it depends on the dealer. And, since RX-8's aren't exactly flying off the lots, you may be able to say something like "And for that price I want this and this and this done for no charge or else I'm walking..." 9 times out of 10, when the car is not selling like hotcakes, they will do it. You never know until you try it out.

But for real, stop making new threads. This is the third one that is currently active. Just ask the questions in the same one the next time.

Even if you are PARTIALLY successful at pulling this off, why would you want to put money into a car you are only leasing? When all it said and done you wont own the car and you will own some worn out parts you wont need or want after its all done. Even when I straight up BOUGHT my car and was paying on it (triple payments every month to get it done fast) I was hesitent to put money into the car. Now that is paid off I have no problem sinking a bit of extra money into the car, full MS suspension, RP SuperCAT, RB Exhaust... waiting to get pullies, ACT Flywheel and clutch here in a week.

But its your money

Do you understand the differences between buying and leasing? Do you understand why it's a bad bad idea to mod a leased vehicle?

No way!

A dealer would be crazy to let you modify a leased vehicle. Why do you think people have to swap stock parts back on at lease's end?

Look, like you said u're going to lease, not buy. and WHENEVER you leasing something, that means, you have to give the car back to them at *default factory settings*. Yes it means that whatever the factory put on the car, it HAS to be there .... well except maybe wearable item.

Installing a flywheel to a LEASE car, imo, i just plain STUPID.

Cuz dealer lease wont let you do that. So whats the point of doing it in the first place?

EVEN simple stuff like Intake / exhaust, easy on, easy off that you can do it yourself (with an hour or 2 of time TOPS) When your lease is over what are you going to do with the parts? Sell it ? sure, after maybe 24/36 months lease the parts might only worth 1/10 of the original price.

IMO, Leasing a car is the stupidest thing. You will end up paying for about 3/4 the price of the car, for 2/3 years. in the end you still owns nothing. They will always win because say a 30K car, lease usually will pay up to about 17-19K of the cost. After 2-3 years they still can sell it back out for maybe 15-20. So thats 40K in total. Have you ever wonder why dealerships ALWAYS prefer you to lease instead of buy ?

Dont install anything. waste of time and money.

It would be like renting an apartment and putting in wood floors and frech doors at your exspense. If your going to do that just buy a house.

I have done comparisons between leasing and buying at the end vs. buying, and have posted some of these previously. In my case (two years ago on a 2005 GT), the difference was about $2000 more to lease and buy, than to "buy" via financing, assuming a similar monthly payment of $400 or so. A "buy" would have resulted in a big chunk down ($12-14K) and payments for five years. The lease was no money down, and payments for four years; I pay the big chunk ($14K) at the end. This allowed me to loan $12K to my son so he could buy a nice used car, otherwise I could have invested it. In addition, I will own the car a year sooner, or I can walk away from it in two more years without a single worry about resale value.

The bottom line is that leasing is not always a bad idea. Just like anything else we do with and to our cars, there will be things that are right for some and wrong for others.

A dealer may install some mods and let them be part of the lease package, but you will have to return the car to the lessor in stock condition at the end. To some this might be wasted money, but to others this may be a way to get what they want at a price they can afford at the time they want it.

I say go for it, just make sure that they agree to remove and reinstall the parts they put on it for you at no extra cost when the lease is up.

There are pros/cons to leasing.

Several of you pointed out the stupidity of my logic regarding mods...yes...modding a leased car is dumb. So I'll probably just leave it stock. The one I test drove was stock and it was a blast...

AS for leasing... I can lease the car for less money than buying it. At the end of the lease, I can turn the car in OR I can buy it. If I buy the car, I have to put out much more money up front and wind up with a much larger car payment... Given how cars depreciate...if I buy the car...in about 3 years when the facotry warranty EXPIRES and stuff starts going wrong..I'l still be making car payments. NO thanks.

I don't want to pay for fix it AND pay to own it. I"d rather pay to drive a new/warrantied car and then give it back when it's got 3 years and 40k on it and is about to have everything wear out break and cost me $$ to fix. IN 3 years I'll be sick of it and want somethign new anyway.

If you keep cars for a LONG time, buying usually works out to be better. But you are also driving an OLD car for several years. And having owned several OLD cars, old cars suck. they break, they spend time at the dealer, they can leave you stranded...etc.

given that MOST people buy/finance their cars for 5-6 years to afford the payments...unelss you fork over MORE money for an extended warranty..then you are basically paying on the car AND paying tom aintain it.

i'm doing that on my current car and it sucks.

leasing is the way to go if you can keep it within the mileage constraints and don't mind ALWAYS having a car payment for the privilege of driving something new/clean/relaible/fun.

diff't strokes for different folks.

I understand what you mean, to some who cant put a big down(or needs the money), leasing is a better way to get a car.

but from a business point of view, the dealership will get more out of a lease than buy(w or w/o financing)

You can put some mods, but do NOT put flywheel kind of stuff. ITs really really REALLY a waste of time and money.
