Need some help
I am 17 years old and at the end of this semester my dad has told me that he will buy me a car if i dont get anything lower than a C. He just bought my twin brother a BMW 330i and ive been looking at the 04 and 05 rx8 as it is a comparable price to his BMW. Can anyone give me any advice on how to convince him that it is not an unsafe sports car?

Go to NHTSA's web site and show him the safety ratings. Show him the power and torque ratings, and compare them to the 330i's.
Only at least C? I disapprove. The deal should be at least Bs. And if there are not some solid As in there, you get a Civic.

Mazda brags about the car. There are steel pipes going through the doors that engage when the doors are closed to keep the chassis stiff and safe. The chassis itself is already stiff as hell since it is a sports car. Also, check the safety ratings as people said.

I think you should poke around the site and do some reading.
The car is very safe, but there have been a lot of wrecked ones from owners who drove beyond their means. Young owners tend to be the majority of those.

of course of course probably not the bet question but i intend to be EXTREMELY safe in any car i get... in not one of those 17 year olds. that is why i have been doing my research and learning all about the proper maintenance for this type of rotary engine (oil, flooding, ect.) and i have found these forums to be a very valuable resource.

I wasn't one of "those 17 year olds" either. I had all A's, paid for all of my own stuff, spent my time out in the garage wrenching on cars, raced quads, had a 50mph go-cart at age 4, etc, etc.
I still wrecked my first car at 17. **** happens. I wasn't paying enough attention. It had nothing to do with how fast or safe the car was. (it was both fast and safe) **** happens. If you're worried about being faster than your brother, **** will happen faster and more often.
We're just telling you to do tons of research first. Look at more than just maintenance threads. Soak in as much as you can handle. Read some more. Show your dad it's a good car by being knowledgeable about it. Get insurance quotes for yourself, look at pricing, read the good stories and the horror stories. Show you dad your findings. If you're adult about it, it will make you "not one of those 17 year olds"

Yikes, I'm 25 and I have to watch myself in my 8. It gets away from you, and quick. The temptation to go to 6th gear and not stop is always there. My first car was a '95 Chevy Lumina. I would have killed myself in anything else.
I hate to encourage you because I don't see how a 17 year old can be remotely responsible in a car like the 8. What other cars have you driven up to this point?

Seriously you and your siblings get rewarded with expensive cars for getting C's?? I got straight A's and my parents went half and half with me on a pos old Jeep and I thought that was being spoiled. Ahh to have rich parents....
