Need to repaint car...
I have a bb rx8 and its needs to be repainted. Anyone know a black that stands out? I thought about adding pearl or flakes to the paint, but then if I get into a accident I would need to repaint the entire car again.
I was looking at OEM paint for Lexus, Prosche, Ferrari, and Lambo they pretty much look the same.

I need to repaint because I have alot of scrathes, chips, and I want to clear bra it once repainted. Paint now a days is way too soft, frickin hippies.
Trust me I won't get into in accident on purpose, but there is a ton of dumb@ss on the road, that I have no control over.

Well, technically, I don't need to repaint the entire car, but since I can why not? Like I said I would like to add lots of clear bra. The paint is way too soft.

I think adding pearl or flakes is a good idea. Is there any reason your looking at oem colours from different car companies? With the many different flakes out there, you could get something different.

our bb has zero flakes and therefore you can see all the defects in it. It's hard to keep clean but looks awesome when it is. adding flakes will add more spot sparkle everywhere and you will less likely notice dirt cuz it will blend in as the flakes. i don't know how different it will make the car though.
oh yea and you will need to wait a month for the paint to cure before getting a clear bra. by then you will get scratches again anyways.
I say touch up and get it professionally detailed. it has only been what... 3 years max? spend the extra money on mods!

Well seeing how you live in the custom car capital of the universe—and if you're serious and really willing to drop the big bucks—I would take a few days to visit the best custom body shops in and around LA. (Shouldn't be hard to figure out who they are.) When you find a shop you have a really good feeling about, tell 'em how you want to repaint, but with better paint, and let THEM suggest other black paints to you—plain, mica, pearl, and who knows what other cool stuff is out there now! They'll probably show you actual black cars they've done so you can see just how it would look. That's what I would do—if had money to spare, that is. You'll need a lot.

The two Subaru blacks are quite striking. Jack Black Pearl has gold flakes in it and Obsidian Black Pearl has blue flakes. They also had a Black Mettalic prior to that which had a red mettalic in it. There is also a Caddy color called moonstone with gold flakes.

The Briliant Black that Mazda uses has two faults:
1) It is a very soft paint
2) Its not pure black
The formula for BB has 1.2% titanium white pigment in it.
I'd say just have it properly prepped and shot in a true, pure black with a double clear coat. Use either Dupont or, better yet, PPG. Hard as a rock.

Didn't know about the 1.2% white in my black either. Hummm I'm not a hardcore paint junkie and know very little about car paint in general but I do agree that the paint for this car is WAY too freaking soft. Ballpark what would it cost to do 100% repaint for the RX8? and no im not talking about some BS Maaco job either.

Hmm. Why not just do it in something interesting/unique - go look around for what Aston Martin uses for paint.
Then again, there's always something to be said about flat-matte black.

Thats not true Ngo. You don't need to wait that long. The 8 isn't my daily driver anyway, so I could have it sit for a while to have it clear bra'd.

Well I’m getting hooked up. The last guy that took his 8 to this shop, paid $800 to have his entire car re-painted. He also had them slap a authentic veilside body kit. I don't expect to that same deal, but I'm still getting hooked. I was quoted $3000 by a different shop.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Ike I will look into the Subie paints, thanks again, y'all.

$800 for a full car repaint?
Now THAT sounds like a crap Macco job
For a full repaint, they are going to blast the old paint off, primer, new paint, clearcoat.
Its going to cost $1500 for a regular crap job youd find anywhere, and up to $6,000 for a professional job with a high-end or custom color from Dupont or something.
Trust me, I've looked into this. You don't want a respray over old paint, unless its to one area, such as a fender that got a dent pulled or something.
If its just a respray, you also wont be changing colors, it'll be exactly the same color, unless you want some weird looking paint down the road, when the under layers die, and come through the new.
This isn't a faint of heart job, I hope you realize, I'd expect for a color change, with nice paint with flakes or pearl, is going to cost around ~3500-4000 from a prosessional shop.

Or get clear bra ASAP, clear bra is stronger than paint. That would have saved me from having the need to repaint my car, IMO.

Well yea, I meant just get the clear reapplied and then put a clear bra on it, should take care of all of the scratches, not so sure about the chips in the paint.
