Need more Torque

Hello,

I have a 2004 RX8 and I am looking to increase the Torque in it. I just got the K&N Typhoon kit installed, but that seems to have decreased my Torque. Some people have mentioned to get Headers, but what brand would be good?
How about getting the exhaust system done?
Any suggestions?

A search of the word "torque" would be the most optimal way to find an answer to your inquiry.

Get a turbo.

Otherwise the most your torque will go up would be 5FT/lb

v8 swap

My 2004 RX8 is also auto so the lack of 1st to 2nd is not an option.

Trade for MT if you want more torque.

The only way you will reach the same power levels is with FI.

Seems like a troll to me >.>, but i could be wrong.

All of us non-FI equipped '8 drivers need more torque, but somehow we've learned to live with it. ;)

You have the wrong car if you want torque unfortunately. But this car really doesn't need a lot of torque thanks to the gearing and it's willingness to rev.

Sure there are times I wish it had more torque but then I take it past 4000rpm and the power kicks in completely killing that desire for more torque.

want more torque? downshift.

That would be horsepower...

Torque is mostly inherent to the engine design. No rotary produces much torque because the shaft has very little "stroke" to the journals in comparison to a piston engine. This is also part of what makes it so willing to rev to high rpm, though.

In general, any modification from stock will generally reduce low rpm torque but increase high rpm hp output. This would include intake and header, in my experience.

why are so many people looking for torque? I can understand the need for track but in a daily driver what's the purpose? If you want the "shoved into the back of your seat feeling" eat more.

WTBRotary! 06-02-2010 12:12 AM

^^^ lol well a good solid 200ft-lbs of torque and 300hp would be perfect... gotta have that 10:1 weight to hp ratio...

laythor 06-02-2010 12:13 AM

my question stands... perfect for what?

WTBRotary! 06-02-2010 12:16 AM

Well, so a Honda Civic doesnt beat me off the line, and so my car can compete with other cars around the same price range, even possibly higher. Hell cheap HP is out there where even though their handling SUCKS, the HP makes up for it and they will beat the 8 around a track, Even though we will have a more fun in the 8, id still like to see the 8 compete against cars in its price range...

laythor 06-02-2010 12:20 AM

you said it yourself. it comes down to fun, for most of us. I personally think that the 8 is the most fun car to drive i have ever owned. The sound, the handling, the lines, just the whole experience. When I'm driving around in my 8 the though of "more torque" never enters my mind, it's just pure fun from start to finish.

I think the whole idea of more torque has become a the grass is greener on the other side thing. Could the car handle more torque, hell yeah. Does it need it to make it more fun, maybe. Can you you have a NA RX8 your whole life and be happy, why not?

Torque is what moves your car from a stop at low speeds, it is what you use during 90% of your normal daily driving. More of it is never a bad thing. The car could certainly benefit from more of it, but "need" may be too strong a word.

I agree with you, im not gonna say I dont :smoker: , I just think we need a little more hp and torque, thats all

Huey52 06-02-2010 09:05 AM

Heartily concur. "Torque does the work but horsepower gets the credit."

The '8 is a super handling machine, but the 16X's purported 20% more torque sure would be nice (want, not need)!
