Need assistance with P2402 CEL

I have a 2004 sport 6spd with 10K miles (yes 10K) and I recently did a bit of work on it which included replacing the fuel pump (I tightened the ring by hand but it does not leak any fluid) and having the dealer install a new PCM. At that time they performed the MSP16 reflash and a voluntary emissions recall. A couple weeks after that work was performed, a CEL came on and it read P2402 EVAP system leak detection pump control circuit high.

Since I assumed this was related to the recent reflash and emissions recall I took the car back to the dealer for diagnosis. They have told me it is unrelated to the reflash and there is actually a physical leak at the leak detection pump. Parts and labor to replace the pump is about $500.

Does this seem like the correct diagnosis? Has anyone had a similar failure? If there is a leak, I'd be more suspicious of the fuel pump ring or the gas cap. However, the CEL description seems to indicate a control circuit problem, and that makes me more suspicious of something happening during the reflash and recall work. Any thoughts?

I should add that several people have already given me some helpful advice in the FS section and I hope they'll chime in again with their comments in light of what the dealer has told me.

WTF coincidence??? CEL on...P2402 Leak Detection Pump 2008 RX8

CEL came on right after leaving the dealer from getting an oil change and alignment....wtf.....Took it back and they tell me Code P2402 (leak detection pump). Mazda wants 500 for the parts an labor.... I feel like this is crazy. Car had no problems when I took it in for service and spent almost 500 with them already.....I left and drove about 10 miles and this happens....
Coincidence???? Is it possible something they did messed it up?

car has 25,000 miles on it.

Help! Does anyone know how to fix this?
Better yet...where the hell is this leak detection pump located.
2008 RX8 Touring edition.

It's probably coincidence although I'm surprised your 2008 would have the problem. I'm pretty sure it happened to me because my car (a 2004) had sat for a number of years and presumably the rubber in this part dried out and cracked.

It turned out that the evap pump was in fact leaking on my car and I was able to get a replacement off ebay for a reasonable price and install it. Looks like you can too http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-MA...62e14f&vxp=mtr . I can't remember exactly how to replace the pump but I think it was under the car in the aft section near the fuel tank. I'm pretty sure I had to reach up and over something to take it out but it wasn't too painful of a job.
