my TOP speed

i went to a cottage with some friends on the weekend, and on the highway i tried to get the rpms as high as possible in 6th. the car almost completely stopped pulling at about 7k rpm... i was doing 238kmh and it wouldnt move, gas to the floor and nothing for at least 30 seconds

so, what is your personal top speed, and do you know if there is a limiter? if there is, i hope the Cobb AP im getting myself for xmas will get rid of it

You try attempting top speed in 5th gear...in 6th really is an overdive/cruising gear.

238kmh is about roughly right as the aerodynamic top speed. You might be able to squeeze a few more out of it here or there, but generally, you are basically maxed out. And the only limiter is at 180kmh for those cars that do have it, so yours clearly doesn't.

Lots of top speed threads on here...

Ya 5th gear the way to go for your top speed. Fastest I got mine is 148mph then was running out of road. Took a pic at 143mph.

MT or AT? doesn't the AT have a limiter that you can't get rid of?

238kph is 147mph. i've been to 149mph in 5th gear. 5th gear has more powerz. i read that someone shifted into 6th at redline and then slowly lost speed. shifted to 5th and crept back up. 6th just doesnt have the power to move you past (albeit incrementally) where 5th gear does unless you add some serious horsepower.

like Pitz, i've hit 100mph but then get to scared thinking some magical cop car will appear and arrest me.
I wasn't really scared of a cop, because I was way out in the middle of nowhere, with the only way a cop could catch me is if they were way out of town...

I was more scared of a deer jumping out/a bump causing a wheel to pop up and then me = dead.

Technically its not street racing... because they aren't racing. It is however ******* stupid to be doing 150 mph on a public road. A near-miss at speeds north of that many years ago is what convinced me street racing was a really really bad idea. It takes the tiniest mistake to smear yourself doing that speed, and you run a risk of taking out someone else when you go.

I presumed it was legal in the OP's country and on an Autobahn, and that others in the States have been refering to closed courses/tracks - that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Aerodynamic limit.

5th gear, as 6th is an overdrive, purposely designed for more fuel efficient cruising.

usually if a cop is sitting on the side of the road and sees someone going that kinda speed he wouldnt chase simply coz unless he knows theres a cop car ahead he wont catch up and if the driver saw the cop all he needs to do is take the next exit or turn and hes free ive seen this happen once and been in a car doing around 180 once cop turned his lights on turned em right back off and parked again ... no joke

oh no I understand, I only do this in a spot that I am 99% sure I can get away with it but I still worry that some how, some crazy cop is hiding in a bush or something.

haha, I have friends who are always telling me that "There are no cops down here, I've never seen one!"

But I hate when they say that, because whenever I'm driving down a road, there is always some cop down where people say "I've never seen one there!".

So, I'd rather do anything risky in a place where there is absolutely no population out there and the only one in danger is me and an animal. Which was...1.5 years ago? I did it once, and was scared enough to never do it again haha.

That is generally my luck... of course it only happens when I'm driving some shitty car like my backup Geo Prism. I never get pinged for speeding in the 8 ironically. I get a warning for "excessive speed" while doing 19 in a 25. Stupid loud exhaust.

If your traveling 150 mph, your 3+ miles down the road before he gets any where near that speed.

Add FI and you can get near or above 160 mph. I admit I'm too chicken to try it on a public road, though. I've seen what excessive speed/bad luck can do to a vehicle, and a human body.

Reminds me of Tokyo Drift *gag*. Where they are driving super fast, and they pass cops.

"**** ****"
"Don't worry man, if you're going faster than xxx kph, then they won't give chase."

yes, but you have to slow down at some point and chances are you'll get stuck behind some grandma in the left lane going 20 under.
