my rattles went away
When I got my 8 about 3 months ago it was rattleless. About a month into ownership the rattles started and it annoyed the heck out of me. Now that I've had my 8 for a little over 3 months the rattles have stopped. I guess all the loose things causing the rattles must have wedged themselves into or up against something :p
I had a really annoying rattle coming from the passenger door and I was ready to dismantle that thing to go hunt it down but now I don't have to

I have a couple of rattles - maybe y'all have encountered the same thing?
One seems to be coming from near the driver seat seatbelt hook on the pillar. It is not the seatbelt hook itself, because when I hold it the rattle continues anyway. I've pressed various places and cannot find where the hell it's coming from.
The second seems to be coming from somewhere near the glove compartment. I thought it WAS the compartment, but even if I have it open, or am pressing against it the rattle is still there.
Any ideas? Had the car for 3.5 months

The glove box rattle is a wire harness buzzing up against the metal tube that supports the inside of the dashboard. Real hard to get to. If you haven't had the airbag harness recall done yet, have them fix that rattle then.
The other rattle is probably a block of spacing foam inside the door panel.

I had a rattle in the center of the dash somewhere and that seems to have stopped too. Not sure how I ever would have found that one but I'm glad it's gone. Our roads are so bad here, that's what started the rattles, but that is probably the reason they stopped too. My 8 gets jarred around so badly everyday that whatever was loose and rattling must have gotten wedged against something from all the bumpy roads.

VW coulda had it...
I'm wondering how common the passenger seat rattle is. Did the problem go away when carrying a front passenger?
I notice if I have that seat all the way back, it rattles. If I push it about midway forward on the tracks, it doesn't. It seems to have too much clearance where the fixed and movable sliding track sections fit together.

I complained about the ratteling, and they said my passenger side speaker was blown. So they are replacing it now as we speak.
My 8 is also in the shop for a nasty grinding noise when you throw it in reverse. That has been confirmed by the mechanic and Mazda has been notified. I should here something today about that.

I took in my 8 for the driver's side air vent rattle. They said they replaced it. Needless to say it still rattles. I'm going to take it back...make them ride with me and listen to it. I can stop the rattle by simply putting my finger in the vent and adding pressure.

I also have a rattle that went away. I was around the moonroof assembly. I thought it was due to the fact that it has gotten warmer lately in California.

True. I'm one of those guys that can't let go of the concept of something I paid 30K+ for being supported in a relative manner. Translation, I think the dealer/Mazda should step up and do it. If I just fix it myself then it's never raised as an issue.
