My observations on mpg using cruise control inside the city
So this is what I've observed so far with using cruise control inside the city. With mixed 5th/6th gear cruising gears (I'd say 60% 5th and 40% 6th as my commute is not through very fast roads)
Using the old looking at fuel gauge and trip computer...at where the fuel guage is now I'd normally have traveled 140-150km (based on the past few months of driving)...right now it's at 183km.
This is roughly a 22-30% improvement in gas mileage (if all proves to be accurate...)
My driving habits have remained the same, except now I am using cruise control to maintain cruising speed. I haven't noticed any difference in travel difference. If there is any, it's most likely very small.

Yup.........I've never been a fan of cruise control for this reason.
Too often, the cruise control will punch it going up a hill when it isn't really neccessary.
Cruise control doesn't know if the incline goes on for another 200 yards or more, when I can clearly see the road is going to level any second now.

You should give up on the gas mileage thing. Just be glad there isn't a shortage and long lines at the pump and you own a car that can put lower mileage to good use when driven. Besides, cruise always nets me worse mileage on the interstate when there are hills.

How the hell do you use cruise control and 5th/6th gear inside the city?! What kind of city do you live in? I can't get 50 yards without having to stop, swerve, or quickly accelerate. I think it's why our MPG reports are so vastly different - our environments are nothing a like.
Oh since you're in Mb and any more news about that crazed bus killa?

Not sure how up to date you are on the greyhound incident (I'm not THAT up to date but I read the paper)
But according to the news, a Carny was traveling via greyhound from Edmonton, AB to Winnipeg, MB back home.
Around Brandon, MB (which is a small city 2 - 2.5 hours west of Winnipeg) another man boards (the background is he has some mental health problems, but refused to seek help, and is a new immigrant from mainland China) and for whatever reason after the bus moved for a little bit pulled out a commando style knife (really large) and started to attack the other man in his sleep. Pretty gross...
