My new RX-8 Help!
My new RX-8 Help!
Hello all,
Saturday I traded in my 2004 Mazda 6 V6 for a 2005 RX-8. For some reason people stole the shifting **** and manuals from all the RX-8’s. The dealership was able to get me a shifting **** but I still have no manual. So I decided to real forums to learn about the car. The only thing I really read about was engine flooding, which I really still don’t understand. Could someone explain some of the important things I should know about the car. Also does anyone know a website where I can buy an owner’s manual and other accessories?
Thx Ant

You should not have to buy an owners manual. If the dealer is not willing to provide one, call Mazda North American Operations at 800-222-5500 and request a hard copy, and while you're at it, let them know that the dealer would not provide one. As far as accessories go, there are 2 Mazda dealers on this forum that provide discounts on OEM accessories. Look in the vendors section.
Flooding is less of an issue with the 2005's, but all rotary engines are somewhat prone to flooding. To avoid flooding, do not shut the car down when it is cold. For example, don't start a cold car, move it and immediately shut it down. Let it warm up first and you will never have a flooding problem.
ADVICE: Above all, to avoid flaming, try searching the forum before you ask a question. Just about everything you could think of to ask has almost certainly already been discussed--some topics have been discussed at length.

Welcome to the forum. Flooding is when the engine has to much fuel in it and can not start. If it happens you can try this:
Press the accelerator to the floor and turn the key for 7 seconds. Turn the key off and let your foot off the accelerator. Then start the car as you normally would.
Like Go48 said, flooding is less of an issue for the 05's. I have moved my 8 in the driveway many times without it flooding. Have fun and drive hard!

I wonder what's up with that...they claimed at my dealership that they were starting to have a similar problem with the 8's only. They keep the shift ***** and manuals in the dealership now.
High black market value?
and cuckie is right...my 8 uses more oil then gas. Just plan on replacing the trunk with an extra wet-sump oil pan.
WTF people.

You people are scary! You've covered all possible topics....
I will adopt the posting method of saying what I think I can get away with and then running like hell! If that doesn't work maybe I'll dust off my old Army helmet and wear that for protection.

Funny you should mention the shift **** as this is exactly what happened at the dealership in Roseville where I got my 8 two weeks ago. Of course, when it came to finding the real one they couldn't (initially), but they did ship it to me this past week with a prepaid Fedex envelope to return the temporary one
At that dealership they have to remove the shift ***** on all cars, not just the 8.
