Smile My new car! used 04 Rex

So it's been almost a month with my '04 sunlight silver Rx8 and I've read tons of info on here. It's so much fun to drive and take care of. I picked it up from a small dealership in San Jose for $9250, I talked em down from $12,900. It has 67k miles on the original engine... hope to get a new one before the warranty expires. Came with leather seats, sunroof, seat warmers, 6 speed manual. Looked like the guy who original owned it drove it a lot on mostly the highway and knew how to take care of it. Just wanted to know what others thought of my new buy and had any advice for a young (19 in may) Rex owner. I don't have too many plans for the car right now at least until it's paid off in about two years. I do use it as my daily driver now and just put new performance tires and replacing brake pads and rotors myself within the next 4months. Any help or comments would be great, thanks a lot.

P.S. Some things i'm interested in are: daily and long term maintenance, aftermarket warranties, some how getting a new engine from mazda before warranty expires, mazdaspeed body kit, how to wire my valentine RD thru the roof, changing oil myself vs..., hymee scanalyzer, and much more.

Well first off Welcome to the clut.... i mean club.

1.Post some Pictures

To answer your questions, since I just ate and am in a very good mood
1.daily and long term maintenance,
These tips will vary between different owners and members
You live I guess in San Jose area... so I assume its rather warm?
Well make sure to fully let REX warm up before turning it off.
Make sure to redline daily
The car likes to be driven hard... provided it is fully warmed up
The car eats oil... varies on owner, engine, oil, etc.
Check the oil level often... on average I hear about 1 quart per 2 fillups(300+ miles)

2.aftermarket warranties,
Well the orignal warranty is 4 years 50k miles? either way its expired
But all RX-8s have a 8year/100k engine warranty.

Call up Mazda USA and be sure to change ownership information into your name, they will mail you offers for service and can tell you if all recalls have been fixed.
some how getting a new engine from mazda before warranty expires,

3.mazdaspeed body kit
I'm not sure what you wish to know. There are various vendors on the club that sell and carry the kits in stock. If your looking for a cheaper alternative keep an eye on the For Sale Section of the forums.

4.how to wire my valentine RD thru the roof,
Can be found in DIY section of Tech Garage
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=51759.html

5.changing oil myself vs...
Well the oil to change in the 8 is so simple....
I change my own because its very simple and I enjoy servicing my own car
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=12455.html

hymee scanalyzer,
Not sure what your are wondering about this
Supposed to be comperable to the Cobb Accessport (tuning device for car)
However I believe Hymee is laptop based(so laptop must be in car when driven)

and much more.

Thumbs up Thanks!

Hey thanks a lot guys. Really appreciate all the help. About aftermarket warranties, I was wondering who's offering the best ones out there? Not the original or extended warranty. Although anyone have any ideas on a good way to weasel a new engine out of mazda through the extended engine core warranty? I was thinking just keep records of oil changes and regular engine maintenance, leave some oil out and run it real hard one day and just let the engine go... what do you think? Also, whats the Silver curse? O no. Anyways, I'm in the Belmont/San Mateo area and if any 8 owners want to get together message me. Really interested in what others are doing to their 8's. Thanks again guys

No one calls it a Rex. A Subaru WRX is a Rex.

Yeah, call it your '8', not a Rex (which is slang for a Subaru WRX).

When you refer to your '8', some might think you're bragging while others might feel sorry for you.

Now I'm curious. How does the Hymee compare to the Accessport??? I was thinking about getting the accessport.

NE Way, welcome to the addiction you'll enjoy every moment of it.

As far as I know, I don't believe the Hymee Scanalyzer can tune, the accessport can and tunes right when you plug it in. I would like a laptop based program that can tune and data map. Some alternative to just having either or, so if anyone knows of such a program that is compatable with the Rx8 ECU let me know. Thanks again

some how getting a new engine from mazda before warranty expires,
Original warranties, b2b & powertrain were both 4 years / 48k. Powertrain warranty extended under recall to 5 years / 60k. Engine core further warrantied to 8 years / 100k.

So, depending on the original purchase/registration date of the car the powertrain warranty may still be intact until sometime later this year.
