Cool My New 8

Well, after about a year of drooling..., quite a bit of begging and pleeding, adjusting savings plans in Excel spreadsheets so often that I dreamed in spreadsheets... I finally drove home my shiney new black RX-8!

To be honest, my wife and I were almost scared off by the gas mileage, what with two bucks/gal that will probably last for the near future. I almost drove home a fully loaded Celica GTS..., if not for the fact that I'm 6'3" and even after I got a haircut I still didn't have enough headroom.

I had hummed and hawed for roughly a month, so much that my wife gave up caring as long as I just bought something with wheeles and an engine! My only concern, this is my third day of driving it, is that both yesterday and today, I had a rough time starting it up. It took three goes this morning before it finally roared to life. I've been watching the boards for problems people have encountered, and this was one I was dreading. I just hope it settles down and goes away.

Anyway, I got my car..., I' could probably go on in this forum and extole some of it's virtues but it's sitting out there in the drive and you've all hea------|

Are you letting the car warm up to normal temperature before turning it off? I believe if not, this can cause harder starts the next time you try.

Re: My New 8

The rotary engine does take a bit longer to start. Just turn the key and key it there for a second. It will start every time.

No it does not seem that your engine was flooded.

My New RX-8!

Yes I have been letting it warm up before shutting off, each of my trips have been 15 minutes or longer, both the oil and engine temp have been in the middle of the gauge, not sure what temp range that is. I also heard something about reving the engine to 4500-5000 before shutting it off to make sure to throw excess oil and fuel into the system. Any truth to this?

Thanks,

Labop

HitMaNN,

I know what you mean about heart not being in it. But I'm pretty **** about headroom, everything else fit nicely, n fact I was pretty impressed by all the features (and the fact that it was two grand less than the base RX8 AND it was all tricked out). I don't like feeling my hair touching the ceiling, and I keep mine pretty closely cropped (in the Navy), and in the end I was admitadly already in love with the 8 so.... >

We have ALWAYS reved to 3k rpms WHILE turning the key off. We both have NEVER had a start that took longer than 3 seconds. Doing this seems to help by emptying excess gas. Also, be sure to NOT pump the gas pedal while starting... big NO NO.

If you haven't yet, go back to your dealer and tell them what kind of problems you are having and see if they will at least flash the ecu to the latest revision. Definitely couldn't hurt. I'm having mine done today along with a couple of recalls.
