Angry My front bumper paint is peeling!

This is ridiculous! I just noticed this morning.. the bay where it holds the fog lights, the paint is peeling! The bumper looks like dead skin that is peeling off. It looks like the clear coat is coming off. I sure as hell hope that this is covered under warranty! Anyone else have this problem? Also, I noticed that my driver side door rattles when my car is idling. The stress of owning this car is too much!

Yes I have photos! The second one shows it much better.

I tell ya.. my defroster button cracked, my driver side sun visor broke, my side sliding compartment door button broke, and now this?? 30k for this??? Those other items were resolved but I am getting tired of being at Mazda every weekend because a new issue comes up. For an expensive car.. this car was built poorly. Sorry guys.. im just venting.

Why not? I'd complain about both. It's your right. Maybe he'll find something. I just got a call back actually and the tech said they can't find the 2 rattles I complained about. He did say that next time, he'll ride with me so I can isolate it for him.

Can the bumper be from bugs, rocks, or anything else? Haven't seen anything like that. How many miles do you have?

11k miles, but rock chips couldnt do that can it? I have had rocks that caused me to have rock chips.. but it shouldn't bring up the clear coat like that.

He lives in Detroit, you live in Las Vegas? Why does anything his dealer did/didn't find have anything to do with what your dealer might/might not find?

just take the car in and see? Why get so in a fuss about it?

I can care less about the rattle, thats the last thing on my mind right now. I am just stressing about the paint. Also, the soonest they can take me in is this Saturday. So we'll see what they can do for me.. and as for the paint.. they will have to take a look at it to see if I caused it or if it is something that they will fix for free..

Is the pealing just on the nose or is it on the hood and other adjoining areas as well. I thought maybe if it was on other areas as well, it might have something to do with a wash job or maybe if you used a harsh detergent trying to get bugs off.

I hope it is a factory issue so they will cover it but I'm sure they are going to say you washed it with something really harsh.

Good luck!

Was the front ever re-painted? Maybe by the dealer before you bought it?

If it really is the clearcoat peeling, it would likely be the result of poor surface prep. Old clears can blister from heat and uv but something else would have to cause a premature failure.

You got me!! Are you waxing the car regularly? Are you using good quality products when cleaning the car? If you answer yes, then it should be a warranty issue. Was the car bought used? As beachdog suggested....ever damaged and repainted?

Good luck!!

I bought it brand new.. never waxed it and when I clean the car I take it to detailers. But anyways, shouldn't the paint be meant to take abuse? Also, it was never damaged or repainted.

Both items should be fixed under warranty... you should definitely take it to the dealership. If they say no, find yourself another dealer.

As for "The stress of owning this car is too much!" comment, all I can say is: Dude, trade it and get something that makes you happy! I personally have had zero issues, and the LOVE of owning this awesome car easily outweighs any "quirks" it has, like needing to warm it up to prevent flooding.

If I had Zero problems like you then this car would have been perfect. I truely envy you right now since you dont have to go through this and you are just focusing on enjoying the car. Dont get me wrong.. I love this car. Its just that things like this that makes me want to jump off a 3 foot bridge. I'll see what Mazda has to say about this. Hopefully something good!

Worked for a Toyota dealer in college (lot) You might be surprised who much damage occurs right on the lots- we where always moving cars-and cramming them in spots- where no car should go- hence- many a front end got scraped/scratch- This was Pre-clear coat- days, when very often a simple buff out took care of things--at least visible to the buyer--With the new clear coats, scratches- as long as they do not go into the primer or beyond, are often- re-sprayed with clear- if the shop does not remove ALL the grub- the spray will eventually start to peel- this may be your issue.

Update!

I finally broke down and took the car in at 11 am because I couldnt wait until Saturday. Anyways, I showed them where my paint was peeling and my service rep Vance called the service manager to take a look at it. The service manager said to not worry and that they will take care of it. He said that he was sorry that it had happened and gave me a reason of "sometimes this stuff happens because they do not apply enough clear coat and it starts to peel blah blah crap". I'll have to take my car in again on Monday morning where they will keep it for 2 days and they will give me a rental until the work is done. Oh, also they will fix that rattling problem on my side door! Overall it was a good experience! Thank you Courtesy Mazda!

I just love when dealer personnel would rather make stuff up than admit they don't have a clue. And they wonder why no one trusts them.

At least they are going to take care of it.
