Angry My baby got rear ended.....the curse continues

Ok I was visiting my mom in NYC and we decided to visit my Aunt in Long Island, NY. I was on West Belt Parkway heading to Brooklyn. I came into a complete stop because the traffic was stopped. And there it was a nudge from the back. I looked on my rear view mirror there was a lady checking her front end. So I got out the car and there I saw multiple cracks, dented license plate and a minimal dent on the bumper. In my opinion, it wasn't a serious accident but enough to have to replace my bumper. We called 911 many times and no one responded More problems occurred when I found out that the girl that hit me didnt have her registration and insurance on her!!! She begged and pleaded to not involve the cops or insurance. But I called her "insurance" and filed a claim. When I came home I received a call from Progressive saying that her insurance had been cancelled. Sometime later, the girl called my Mom explaining that Progressive have called her and then my Mom told her that she had given us the wrong information. The girl then told my mom that she didnt know that her dad had changed her insurance. In conclusion, I think that the vehicle she was driving was her dad's and that she was scared that he would find out. I will be posting pictures tomorrow when I get back to Bethesda. Any input would be appreciated :D

Why is anyone calling your mom??? Was she involved in the accident? Police reports are good things. Get one.

I have USAA insurance and after my rear-end collision on 2 Jan they tracked down the right insurance company and policy/claim number for me. As it turned out he had cancelled the policy he had given the trooper in June of last year, FHP did not care that he provided false information at all. In the end all I can say is that if you have her contact info and no police report it will be cheaper for you to pay your deductible and file the claim on your policy and let your insurance company try to recoup their loss.

Best of luck to you...hope to get my 8 in the shop this coming week or the next.

You should NOT have to pay your deductible -- you were completely not at fault, and if the girl who hit you does turn out to have insurance, your insurance company should waive your deductible. Are you with USAA? I am, and my policy does have the deductible waiver clause.

I'm glad it was just a tap; it sounds like a good body shop will put your car back just like new.

Oh, and welcome to the rear-ender club, by the way... it really doesn't just happen to Sunlight Silvers!

That sucks. Glad you're okay (?).

The girl that hit you sounds like a nightmare and will probably only get worse. Get a police report. I believe you have a few days to file for one.

I wouldnt want the bumper fixed I want it replaced. I think it would be almost the same price if I have it replaced. I'm under my mom's and we have allstate.

I guess she was involved since she was sitting in the back sit. She told me she thought I hit a bump. LOL

Get a police report. People always come up with a different story 2 days later. The Police report really should be called a insurance report. People will tend to tell the truth to a Officer at the scene. Two days later they tell a different one to the insurance company. It happened to me. A guy ran into a car in front of him and then I hit him. Later He claimed I pushed him into the car ahead and caused all the damage to both cars.

ALWAYS get a police report after an accident that does damage to your car. Call the cops no matter what they other party says - pleads, curses, whatever.
It will help a lot when dealing with the insurance company.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about it. Regardless of all the "should have dones," call your insurance company ASAP and have them handle it. You shouldn't have to pay anything.

I don't think that counts as proof. I had someone hit me and they asked me not to call the police, they'd pay cash, etc. What they tried doing was to stall me past the 7 day period to file a police report so they could claim there was no accident. I filed the report on day 7. Without a police report I don't think there is proof the accident happened and given they don't have insurance, chances are good they will screw you if you give them the opportunity. Especially on what will probably be a couple grand of damage. Just my .02.

unfortunately here in Texas you don't really get police help unless there is some sort of injury or harm to a person. and if you are on private property, which i was, they don't show up anyway. really sucks but i got lucky and she admitted to it when the insurance companies got involved.

Same here in California, but you should always be able to file a police report post-accident for insurance purposes. Either way, this sounds like a classic job for uninusured motorist coverage, and slllygrl10 should not have to pay a nickel.

I am and I'm 22. But if you're parents are willing to pay for your insurance then why not. Lets see my parents pay for my school, food, clothes, cellphone, motorcycle, credit cards and car (not the 8) because I wanted to pay itmyself so I can say its my car. I call it fortunate and yes I'm old enough to get my own insurance but dont feel like it!

Shitty deal. I don't know why you called 911 though, doesn't sound like much of an emergency.

I have to agree with the above posters though, you shouldn't have to pay a cent.
