My 1k mile report summary
Well I have had my 8 now for 2 weeks and have put 1k miles on it. Only really been driving to work and back 400 miles per week.
This is really a great car.
My gas mileage has gone up after I went by 600 miles...
Prior to 600 miles... I was getting 19.7mpg
After 600 miles I am getting 20.8mpg and it seems my mileage seems to be getting a bit better. Won't know till next fill up.
All of this shifting 3k-4k and 90% highway driving.
My breakin procedure has been:
Kept rpms below 4k for 600 miles..
600 - 1000 I have occaisionally gone to 5k rpms. Only about a handful of times.
Once I get to 1200 miles I might then go to 6k rpms maybe a handful of times.
I let it warm up in the morning and before I drive it until the temp needle hits the first couple of lines then I go. I take it easy until it gets fully warm.
I checked oil around the 600 mark and added maybe an 1/8 of a quart or so.
I am also driving on Toyo Proxes 4 All seasons 225/45r18 and so far these tires have been very good. I live in New England, and have only driving on slush no snow yet.
This car is really great to drive and it handles awesome.
Oh by the way I have a 2004 Winning Blue RX-8. Options in my signature below.
This is truly a great car and I can see why so many people love driving it

Have you had it in the twisties yet? With your conservative approach, it might be good to wait since 4 or 5k is a good starting point going into the curve. I don't mean that in a bad way. I think going easy during the break in is a good thing.
Congrats on getting our dream car. I wish you many great years in it.

Just went over 1600 miles this week. This car goes at least 100 SMH (smiles per hour). I love it. Gas mileage has gone from 18.5 to 21 MPG and it sounds better and better over 6k RPM.
This engine is addictive, no wonder I'm here at RX8 Club all the time, you all are my support group. I have some curves I hit on the way to the kids' school and the 8 holds them like flies on "S" and it's 35 degrees outside. Heard the beep the other day when accelerating under fifty percent throttle, man this thing launches after 7k RPM.
Anyway, I'm gonna go drive...too much typing...gotta go drive...

Thanks for your replies .
Yes it has been very tough at times to keep this car tame under 5krpms especially when soccer moms are passing you!!!! lol
Now that I am over 1000 miles I go to 5k rpms more often and occaisionally go to 6k. Eventually I will work my way up to the "beep" . Since my previous car redlined at 6800, I am used to driving at below 5k and 4k. So I pretend it doesn't go much higher. The only way to cope with breaking this car in .
Got a chance to drive on some snowy roads this morning on my way to work, and the toyo tires worked very well. I did slip a bit but only when I punched it to see how well the traction control works. Other than that no problems.
This is just an outstanding vehicle, and I want to thank everyone on this board that helped me make my decision to get one. She is a beauty.
