mounting a radar detector

I was wanting to mount a radar detector on my car and was wondering where people would recomend to go get this done. By mounting I mean not having the cord run down to the cigarette lighter.

That's why we hardwire it into our rear view mirrors. Run a search on it, you'll find it.

Run a search on it, I have some pics on this site somewhere. Bought the mount from a corvette site (also listed in the thread) and hard wired it to the mirror power.

Would this void my bumper to bumper warranty on the power systems? Also saw these http://www.stealthcords.com/shop/home.php and was wondering if anyone had used them?

would not void your warranty. Mazda would need to prove that splicing wire off that mirror caused some type of failure. (which is HIGHLY unlikely if this is done properly)

What if some of us bought the detector before reading the parts about having the hardware kit? Anyone have a recommended hardware kit? Bought http://www.amazon.com/Vector-High-Pe...6ADW2QF40J7Y28 or the BEL Vector 955. Also I keep seeing some sort of mod where your cigarette lighter used to be, what is that?

If you don't want to wire into the homelink mirror (or don't have), the hard wire cord is long enough to run along the inside of the headliner and down to the fuse box, where you can tap in using an "add a circuit" fuse. That's what I did instead of wiring into my homelink - there are good directions in the DIY section for this method as well.

I bought http://www.stealthcords.com/shop/pro...cat=276&page=1 and http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/escortmount.htm and I will let y'all know what I think of the stealth cord. I like the way Jedi has his setup, and good starting point to start looking from.

There's the link - scroll down about halfway til you see the 2nd post from "robertdot" - I think there's some more pics further on. You will need an "Add a Circuit" fuse adapter - it may take looking at a few different auto parts stores in the fuse area - some have it, some don't. I've had mine this way for 2 years and like it a lot.

If you didnt feel like hard wiring it and dont mind the cable being somewhat visible, then you can do What I did. I have mine mounted on the window (center of dash) with the cord running down towards the driver's side footwell, then pulled through the center console and plugged into the rear cigarette lighter. Works perfect and easy to remove. It can be a bit more complicated depending on how long your cord is or how clean you want it. I ended up trying a few things and just found what I ended up liking as far as looks and what I thought was safe.

I'm sad, my 3/4 inch mount was way too small. The stealth wire works like a champ though. If anyone wants some information ask and ill snap a few picks. Any other advice for ways to mount my radar detector above my mirror or from my mirror?
