You had a real '70 T/A? You sold it to go to culinary school??
Do you realize what that is worth !?! Auto or 4-speed?
There were less than 2500 made (less than a thousand are stick). There are only 20 or 30 original condition T/As remaining in the world and they are fetch way into the 6 figures. Even the restos pull 50k.

If you aren't BS-ing, you must be one hell of a cook at this point.

I had a '70 Challenger R/T. I sold it (makes me weep) in 1987 for 10x what I paid for it. It is probably worth 10x that now.
I also built a fake T/A out of a Deputy model (swapped out the motor and K-frame, did the whole paint scheme, ect.).
I sold that car to a collector for 20x what I paid for the chassis.

mjones53 09-14-2006 06:51 PM

Mit's EVO VIII, $35k

johnnywfg 09-14-2006 06:58 PM

'93 RX-7 twin turbo, FD baby! $28.7 US currency - almost brand new

two mistakes.. red paint job, not enough attention to oil fills.

racing it at pomona all day, didnt realize how much gas id gone through... nothing but white smoke out the back by 4th race... I wasnt nearly pissed as the guys who had to go clean up the oil...

I still like the RX8 better!, RX7 was far too tempermental and impractical

before the Rx7;

89 RX7 - POS with like 80k miles when i got it- crashed it... sued =)
91 RX7 Turbo2 - first fast car, friend crashed it.. got sued =(..

Clavius 09-14-2006 06:58 PM

Psh.. my 85' Dodge Aries Station wagon pwns all your other cars.. that SoB cost $200..!! WooT! Oh yeah.. I was a highballer man fo sur'!! Wit my chromd out hubcaps shyt was offada hook g.

85' Dodge Aries Station Wagon $200
93' Chevy Cheynne W/T 1500 $1,200 (R.I.P. your death wasnt in vane!)
04' Mazda Rx-8 Sport A/T $18,750

Slowly moving up and been driving for erm just under 3 years now. Had a phobia of driving for many years lol.. when in the span of 8 months your in 8 accidents including one on a school bus shyt scars you for awhile.

And Otherside.. you got any pic's of that Challenger?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I respect you 3 times as much now for owning that. I just recently found out that a woman that organizes the Hallmark cards used to own a 75' Camaro, said she got rid of it because she hated how low it was to the ground, and before that she owned one of the 1st gen Mustangs! She now drives a Accord go figure.

Yes, it was real and I miss it daily. It was burnt orange metallic w/burnt orange interior. I was an automatic w/72k original miles. I bought it for 17k in 1992. It was an older restoration but only needed a little work. I sold it for 25k three years later, which is what they were going for then. I saw one sold at Barrett/Jackson recently for 50k. And yes, I do cook well and it was all worth it.

But you work as a Service Manager at a Mazda Dealership :Wconfused

otherside 09-14-2006 07:19 PM

I dont want to hijack this thread. I will find pics and post them in another thread. first I have to figure out how to do that. Not to computor savvy. If someone can pm me on how to attatch pics that would be great! I also had a 1971 Charger R/T 440 magnum for awhile.

That is true. I was in the car buisness a long time and got burned out. I always loved to cook so I took a 2 year break and went to culinary school at the CCA in San Francisco. Graduated and now I do some catering on the side and events at the winery my wife works at. The dealership job is my real job, unfortunately.

Booooooo.....

Oh yeah forgot to say why I traded up from the Chevy.. a woman on her cellphone decided she really really had to be in my lane and just decided to merge over. First time I ever seen a PIT move in person hahaha.. my truck pushed her car completly around the front of my truck and spun her out. Sad thing was she had a 2 year old in the backseat passenger side, made me pause from going postal on the driver. But plus was I got my 8! WooT! here is a photo just after the accident.

Ummm...I don't get it...most everyone upgrades their cars...I don't think very many people would go from something more high end than an RX-8 and move down. Unless I'm missing the point of this thread?

Some of us get tired of Porsche after a half dozen years and decide they need something more economical, like a 4 door truck. Then when life seems like a living hell (because driving a damn truck isn't any fun), they stumble on a sporty car like the RX-8 and can buy it because it has 4 real seats (and it doesn't matter that the rear seats aren't gigantic since the kid is only 8 years old).

Anyway, I'm just speculating.

Ike 09-14-2006 08:15 PM

More than you can afford pal, Ferrari.

supergoat 09-14-2006 09:47 PM

This is the most expensive car I've owned. I'm only 25 so I feel ok with that. :)

Same here. My first car was a 1998 Honda Civic, then I got a good paying job so I bought the 8. I'm only 20 so I'm pretty happy.

Consulier GTP with Stage III Shelby Dodge Turbo 4.

NVMYGT 09-15-2006 07:28 AM

I went from a 2002 Mustang GT to a 2003 Nissan Murano SL AWD. I quickly grew tired of the Mustang because of my quality issues and did a complete 180 and bought the Murano ($42K-loaded not including my employee discount).

zeblien 09-15-2006 10:16 AM

The point was that why would someone upgrade from a 60k BMW, or a similar car to the rx8. We all know some obvious reasons, but its nice hearing what people would rather have.

Now.... I have said this before, but I would rather have a lotus esprit but they stopped making those, and are still 100k. But I would not rather have a porshe, or any other McDonnalds car.

Deuse 09-15-2006 10:30 AM

my first car was a 98 neon, my next car is the rx8 so this is my most expensive car

alfy28 09-15-2006 11:05 AM

in japan age 17yrs old -21,92 fc 7 $15k which was is not expensive really. just the mods was somewhat expensive, thank god for Autobachs and junks yards :). US probably 8 which isnt modded at all, just coilovers and rear and front sway bars that i finally installed last weekend :). I NEED WHEELS :p

reasons for getting rid of car, parents send me to US for college. Im 30 now , reasons for me getting 8. I wanted to get out of my 97 miata due ot high mileage. No rwd cars that i liked besides s2k (which my wife owns), and i do not like s13's and s14's (s15 is another story :) ) and price for fc and fd in US is a joke ( i know because its rare, but use to prices of cars in japan, just makes my heart cry)
So yah 8 is the most expensive car i bought.

BunnyGirl 09-15-2006 11:20 AM

This is my most expensive car. It is also the only car I have ever had. :) I'm 25.

zeblien 09-15-2006 11:21 AM

What did you drive before you were 25? And jeeze your getting old.

BunnyGirl 09-15-2006 11:34 AM

Ha, ha. I didn't drive anything, really. Occasionally my mom's MPV, a friend's Mustang, a friend's Mazda 3, various cars I could use for my on-call job. I didn't actually get around to getting my license until last December anyway. LOL I didn't have a car so it didn't seem that important.

zeblien 09-15-2006 11:36 AM

Wow late bloomer. That must have made your insurance high! Although I dont know about OR. BTW I WILL move there some day.. not to portland, probably salem or something, but that is the best state in the country.

BunnyGirl 09-15-2006 11:42 AM

I actually learned how to drive my senior year, so it's not like I didn't know how. LOL My insurance for full coverage maximum, $100/$250 deductible, gap insurance is $776 for six months, so not as bad as might be expected.

zeblien 09-15-2006 11:52 AM

Oh I ment that my insurance company rates you partialy on how long you have had your license. I did not mean you didnt know how to drive... i did mean WOWzers you sure are getting old.

bascho 09-15-2006 12:26 PM

Bought a brand new Lincoln LSE ($44K) when I first started working for Ford back in 2002. Then I my wife and I decided to have kids I sold it and bought a 2000 Contour SVT ($15K). Had to save $$$ for when my wife stopped working for a year. Now I have a Mustang GT ($29K). In a few years I'll be back up to the Lincoln's for a daily driver....but I'll keep my stang forever :)

SmokeyTheBalrog 09-15-2006 02:55 PM

Had a 2001 Acura CL Type-S paid about $31 something for it and got the 8 for about $21.

It was the handling, pure joy and I always wanted a manual (But in 2001 they were hard to come by)

8_is_enuf 09-16-2006 11:36 PM

I had an Acura RL. I decided every other car would bit more expensive, then less expensive. This was I can get a new car more often, but not get buried in debt. I have already bought my next car -- it's a Tundra quad cab.. Sits in the driveway for now. The RX8 goes in May (this is my first, and last lease).

ERicInCal 09-16-2006 11:42 PM

I had an Acura NSX. I sold it in 2001, took the money and bought 3 condos and a junker Miata. It was the SADDEST day of my life! (LOL) but looking back, one of the smartest things I ever did.

DOMINION 09-17-2006 11:28 PM

Wow. All that from a NSX?

zenmoused 09-17-2006 11:43 PM

I had an Audi A4 that was $37 new. I gave that to a long-time girlfriend as a parting gift. I like my 8 a whole lot more.

I'm 21 years young.

Disclaimer: I'm not one of those brats who get their shiney sports cars bought for them by daddy. I've bought all my cars myself.

ERicInCal 09-18-2006 01:30 AM

Yeah, read this book "rich dad poor dad" and decided I was on the path to being a poor dude. Couldnt have been at a better time too. Sold the car for 35K in 2001. Could have gotten 40k if I waited longer, but I wanted the cash. Bought 2 condos at 115K and a 3rd condo for 335K. Only put down 5% on the houses. What was left went into my $3000 dollar ebay Miata! The 2 condos have pretty much doubled and kick off about $150 each in rent, so that makes the RX8 lease payment, and I flipped the 3rd condo for $420K, 1 day after I bought it.

With the cash I got from the flipped condo, I was debating buying a SWEET car, but was more rational and bought more houses. Im actually selling the RX8 now, because I picked up a mazdaspeed miata last week. Im done with cars for a while. :)

Stavesacre21 09-18-2006 02:59 AM

oh heck why not

Most expensive car owned: ... 1997 Mustang Cobra Vert.
Why I switched: ... Didn't. Just added to the garage. However, prefer the 8 over the Cobra because of the smooooooth engine/ride, as well as it's friendliness to everyday drivability :)

Cars I was looking at as an alternitive: S-2000, 03/04 Cobra, GTO, Tiberon GT, Z3.
Age: 24

Joe_914 09-19-2006 08:35 AM

Porsche 928. Seriously nice car.
However I think the RX-8 is comperable except everything in the Mazda works. :hahano:

deamicls 09-19-2006 09:43 AM

Let's see.....My first car was a 96 Dodge grand Caravan with 125k miles which was a blast. My second car was a 97 Jeep wrangler which was one of the worst cars I've ever driven. Sure you've got a removable top but it takes way too long to take it off and put it back on, the ride is hard, the car rolls like crazy and you can't listen to the radio when you're going faster than 55mph. I'll never buy a softop wrangler again in my life.

and Now the RX-8 WEEEEEEE!

My God we are twins! Well sort of I had an 03 Murano SE AWD. Missed the manual and sportscarness and switched to the 8. Mine stickered for for $38k I think. Muano is a great vehicle but just wasn't for me.

Shaida 09-20-2006 02:13 PM

I own a 99 Mercedes Benz SL500 and I think the RX8 drives and handles much better!

FWgraybeard 09-21-2006 03:17 PM

'02 Porsche 911. It's cost was not compatible with private school for my son.

Then the next would be the RX8
