You had a real '70 T/A? You sold it to go to culinary school??
Do you realize what that is worth !?! Auto or 4-speed?
There were less than 2500 made (less than a thousand are stick). There are only 20 or 30 original condition T/As remaining in the world and they are fetch way into the 6 figures. Even the restos pull 50k.

If you aren't BS-ing, you must be one hell of a cook at this point.

I had a '70 Challenger R/T. I sold it (makes me weep) in 1987 for 10x what I paid for it. It is probably worth 10x that now.
I also built a fake T/A out of a Deputy model (swapped out the motor and K-frame, did the whole paint scheme, ect.).
I sold that car to a collector for 20x what I paid for the chassis.

Mit's EVO VIII, $35k

johnnywfg 09-14-2006 06:58 PM

'93 RX-7 twin turbo, FD baby! $28.7 US currency - almost brand new

two mistakes.. red paint job, not enough attention to oil fills.

racing it at pomona all day, didnt realize how much gas id gone through... nothing but white smoke out the back by 4th race... I wasnt nearly pissed as the guys who had to go clean up the oil...

I still like the RX8 better!, RX7 was far too tempermental and impractical

before the Rx7;

89 RX7 - POS with like 80k miles when i got it- crashed it... sued =)
91 RX7 Turbo2 - first fast car, friend crashed it.. got sued =(..

Clavius 09-14-2006 06:58 PM

Psh.. my 85' Dodge Aries Station wagon pwns all your other cars.. that SoB cost $200..!! WooT! Oh yeah.. I was a highballer man fo sur'!! Wit my chromd out hubcaps shyt was offada hook g.

85' Dodge Aries Station Wagon $200
93' Chevy Cheynne W/T 1500 $1,200 (R.I.P. your death wasnt in vane!)
04' Mazda Rx-8 Sport A/T $18,750

Slowly moving up and been driving for erm just under 3 years now. Had a phobia of driving for many years lol.. when in the span of 8 months your in 8 accidents including one on a school bus shyt scars you for awhile.

And Otherside.. you got any pic's of that Challenger?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I respect you 3 times as much now for owning that. I just recently found out that a woman that organizes the Hallmark cards used to own a 75' Camaro, said she got rid of it because she hated how low it was to the ground, and before that she owned one of the 1st gen Mustangs! She now drives a Accord go figure.

Yes, it was real and I miss it daily. It was burnt orange metallic w/burnt orange interior. I was an automatic w/72k original miles. I bought it for 17k in 1992. It was an older restoration but only needed a little work. I sold it for 25k three years later, which is what they were going for then. I saw one sold at Barrett/Jackson recently for 50k. And yes, I do cook well and it was all worth it.

I dont want to hijack this thread. I will find pics and post them in another thread. first I have to figure out how to do that. Not to computor savvy. If someone can pm me on how to attatch pics that would be great! I also had a 1971 Charger R/T 440 magnum for awhile.

That is true. I was in the car buisness a long time and got burned out. I always loved to cook so I took a 2 year break and went to culinary school at the CCA in San Francisco. Graduated and now I do some catering on the side and events at the winery my wife works at. The dealership job is my real job, unfortunately.

Booooooo.....

Oh yeah forgot to say why I traded up from the Chevy.. a woman on her cellphone decided she really really had to be in my lane and just decided to merge over. First time I ever seen a PIT move in person hahaha.. my truck pushed her car completly around the front of my truck and spun her out. Sad thing was she had a 2 year old in the backseat passenger side, made me pause from going postal on the driver. But plus was I got my 8! WooT! here is a photo just after the accident.

Ummm...I don't get it...most everyone upgrades their cars...I don't think very many people would go from something more high end than an RX-8 and move down. Unless I'm missing the point of this thread?

Some of us get tired of Porsche after a half dozen years and decide they need something more economical, like a 4 door truck. Then when life seems like a living hell (because driving a damn truck isn't any fun), they stumble on a sporty car like the RX-8 and can buy it because it has 4 real seats (and it doesn't matter that the rear seats aren't gigantic since the kid is only 8 years old).

Anyway, I'm just speculating.

More than you can afford pal, Ferrari.

supergoat 09-14-2006 09:47 PM

This is the most expensive car I've owned. I'm only 25 so I feel ok with that. :)

Same here. My first car was a 1998 Honda Civic, then I got a good paying job so I bought the 8. I'm only 20 so I'm pretty happy.

I went from a 2002 Mustang GT to a 2003 Nissan Murano SL AWD. I quickly grew tired of the Mustang because of my quality issues and did a complete 180 and bought the Murano ($42K-loaded not including my employee discount).

A year and a half later I still missed the sports car feel so I started looking again. Enter the RX-8...

zeblien 09-15-2006 10:16 AM

The point was that why would someone upgrade from a 60k BMW, or a similar car to the rx8. We all know some obvious reasons, but its nice hearing what people would rather have.

Now.... I have said this before, but I would rather have a lotus esprit but they stopped making those, and are still 100k. But I would not rather have a porshe, or any other McDonnalds car.
