More Heat Than Other Cars?
I did a rough search and couldn't find an answer so I thought I'd post. Forgive me if it's been posted before. (;_; )
My dad has been telling me that my 8 is generating much more heat than a normal car, in the sense that the boot, cabin and cup holder/compartments are warmer than his Ford. (cabin with air conditioning off in tropical weather)
Anyone find their 8 warmer than any other cars?

Sure do. When it's warmed up, it's *warmed up*. Terriffic in chilly winter weather, but bothersome in the summer (to a point). Glad the AC works so well.

Cabin, Im not sure about where in cabin you talking about. Lets assume its the *middle* part. Especially Cup Holder. Thats because The Catalyst Converter is RIGHT UNDER the cup holder then the exhaust pipe goes all the way to the back.
Oh the trunk someone said? Thats because the WHOLE exhaust Thing is right under it. Dont even expect it to be cold (even winter, its NOT going to be that cold)
ITs great if you wanna keep the food warm (perhaps HOT)
Nothing really wrong with the car, thats what most sports car are like. (due to low clearance)

Momentum Keeps Me Going
One can pretty nearly take care of this whole heat issue in doing a couple things:
1) make sure the dealer has done the necessary TSBs/recalls for gas tank heat shield/over cup holder heat shield (cup holder fix is actually a pretty weak fix on Mazda's part if you see what is done)
2) if you're the DIY type, installing a roll or two of aluminized foam heating duct sound deadener (USA home depot 10sq/ft/roll)/or similar dynamat type sheeting if you want to spend more. Remove the center console area and coat the tunnel with material, also remove the trunk liner and carpet and do the same there.
This helps alot up front, and as a side benefit in the rear, exhaust sound/ road-tire noise (esp if you have a cat-back) is significantly subdued.

It's a front-mid engine car....so it's one of the side effects of having the engine behind the front axle. Just like the porsche caymen's rear mid-engine placement, their cockpits are a lot warmer than the normal 911.

I hope you don't mind the heat too much. It's a real minor issue. I'm thankful, because it could be worse, much worse. For example, we could have a shifter that looked like this:

The AC in this car "blows" especially down here where I live, in hell. Even the 4 cylinder econocars I've rented while my 8 is being serviced had better AC systems. If you live in a place where it's always at least 80 out and you're sweating when you get into your car, it takes forever for the damn air conditioning to actually feel cold. You have to set it to highest (4) and even then it's still weak compared to other vehicles. I've complained about it a bunch of times in both RX-8s I've owned. It's just shitty AC. Oh well.

The rotary's exhaust is few hundred degrees hotter then a piston engine. This is one reason for the poor fuel economy. More energy is lost to heat then in a piston engine.
