Misquoted HP?

anybody hear anything on Mazda quoting the pre-production HP of the RX-8 and anyone who purchased one prior to them correcting the quote was able to return their car and get all monies back with interest on the loan as well?
I found info here:
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=156813

but I dont see anything on any other webiste... just a bunch of hooplah or what?

When did this happen?

I heard the power was less than estimated so I installed a new Knutsen valve to bump it up a bit.

I got it here...they have lots of other good stuff too.

Thanks for the tip!

not hoopla...this did happen...might do a search..there are tons of threads...search "buyback" but yes mazda made a 4% HP mistake...those of us that bought early received a letter from Mazda offering free service for life or an option for mazda to buyback the car...personally, I sold my car back to mazda...then turned around and bought another one with a few more options that I didn't have with the first car

So say I bought mine in mid- Feb. Think I'd be able to return mine and get one with NAV?

Several months late, but at least you've got an 8 :)

Ok, the graphic is hilarious.... Now if we can do someting about a certain avatar that people don't want ending up in their cache at work....

aznkukuboi 05-02-2004 01:18 AM

haha I don't even own an RX-8 and I knew about the misquoted HP. Mazda just gave everyone like 500 dollars (not sure) and an extended waranty. Some enthusaists just got their money back paid fully including taxes etc.

He doesn't own an 8 either..

He is a member on the Acura board

PaulieWalnuts 05-02-2004 07:51 AM

Uh... it's WAY more than 4%

search for dynos on the site:

"MAX HP= 162.68
MAX TQ= 125.63

run conditions:
80.14 F, 29.38 in-Hg, SAE: 1.03
Run type: RO"

Mazda's HP adjustment last year never had anything to do with measuring at the wheels...

beachdog 05-02-2004 10:40 AM

everyone should flame the trolls with pidge's post.

Excellent!

pidge1114 05-02-2004 10:52 AM

I can't take the credit for that graphic - someone else used it on here, but I loved it so much that I began to use it in situtations like this.

I think the "O-pipe" exhaust may free up our missing HP.

And the Engine block bypass will save tons of money on synthetic oil.

JoeRX8ter 05-02-2004 12:53 PM

The Motor Block Oil Bypass Kit is definitely the way to go. I should be able to remove both oil coolers and reduce weight. With the money I save on syn oil I'm buying a set of strakes.

That site is funny as hell. I just sumitted a new item for the performance section, have to wait and see if it gets published.

downshift 05-02-2004 03:00 PM

Wow, they even have Piston Return Springs that you can modefy for the rotory! The site say you need to do some cutting of the rubber sleve. I'm too lazy to do a search... so anybody here done it? :p

SquiSh1718 05-03-2004 10:04 PM

I bought my nordic green 8 the day after I got back from Iraq, I just traded in my type S and never looked back! I love my 8, I'm just regretting not getting the NAV when I had the chance. So far, I havent found anything close that sounds/performs quite like the 8. I was dead set on a 350z, but as soon as I got back from the test drive in the 350, the dealer I was working with suggested I try it against the new 8. Man, what an idiot. The 350 is so ridiculously loose in the turns, runs out of pedal wayyyy to quickly, and started to look like a squished up Altima.

So no more flaming!!! I do have an 8! F*&@ Acura!!!
