yes, Bastage enjoys the finer things in life such as a good Cigar from time to time. Let the man endulge, no harm done here.

Um... No. The 350z is built on the FM platform which is shared by the G35, FX, and M45. The Altima is base don the FF-L platform which is shared by the Maxima, Quest, Murano, etc. You can even tell from the FF layout of the Altima and the FR layout of the 350z... Come on, man. They almost have nothing similar expect for the VQ35 (available with the 3.5 Altima), some accessories, and craptastic Nissan/Infiniti build quality.
the z really isn't that bad. it's a good japanese alternative to the mustang between the z and the mustang gt, i'd choose the rx-8 =P
i don't think the op was asking which one to get; he said he was getting an 8, but sounds like his friends are harassing him about getting the z instead. typical response

All the professional journalists seems to concur that the RX-8 is the better car over the Z. I'm sure they ought to know what they are talking about as they are paid to do so over some high-school graduates....

Wheels, not rims!!

. Elaborate on how "is complete bullsh".
No one said there was anything "mid-engined" about it. No one said it was a sports car chassis design either.
I'm not choosing sides and if I were to choose between the two, i would definitely choose the 8 without a doubt. But it seems like your response seems a bit... "eh"..
there's absolutely nothing mid-engined about it; half of its motor is hanging in front of the front axle line. the 8's and miata's chassis, however, are true front-midship 'cuz the engine (and fuel tank) is completely between the front and rear axle lines. the fm is a budget platform that all of the above-mentioned rwd cars share. great for cost, not-so-great for the sports car

I just came from a 2005 G35 coupe which I traded for the 2008 RX8 and even though I really enjoyed the G (which I had a stillen stage 2 supercharger on it for a little while)
I really Really like the RX8 alot more even if it doesn't have the "numbers" that alot of these guys I hang out with are all worked up about, they all are about the highest HP and torque numbers but really neither they nor I will get alot of chances to use all that unless we are hitting the track which none of us do anyway so whats the point
in my opinion the interior is nicer even though the G is suppose to be the nicer interior then the Z it still cannot hold a candle to the 8 ,
the exterior is pretty close, I really loved the rear end of the G, but it was a big car for a coupe and heavy, now the RX8 I love everything about the exterior appearance, but my favorite angle for this car would be the front end (maybe just me) but very sexy!
Handling the G does not come close, even with aftermarket sway bars added to it and a front strut brace, and well 10 in wide rear staggered wheels
brakes well thats where I kind of miss the G since I had upgraded with the Brembo with drilled and slotted rotors and steel braided lines, the stopping power was great, plus the gold looked awsome, but nothing is stopping me from upgrading the brakes on the RX8 as well, all these new cars are coming with those crappy clamp style brakes which I hate.
now will all the stuff I had on the G35 and it being payed off an all, if you ask me if I regret trading it for the RX8, the answer would still be no, cause everytime I get in to drive somewhere I have a smile on my face
just my .02 cents

I love evertime I see these discussions happen. They make me love my car even more. I really never thought my 8 was slow. even in a sraight line. I have had my 8 fully loaded with two 6' guys in the back seat and my 5' 7 friend in the front saet and I still pulled the tires and my muscle car loving asked me step it up and when I did I asked me to please slow down. Everyone that rides with me loves the ride and they call it the batmobile. My 8 is bone stock!!!!

^yeah i just LOVE it, even though we have a BUNCH of people talkin crap on our 8 saying that it will never compare to a z or s2k, little do people know, they just go on ranting about what theyve read or heard....i saw a lot of that on the Z forums yesterday and it was kinda sad....but you still have people poppin up saying good things about our cars in different forums.

I have spent many miles behind the wheels of a Z. They are a great car, but they just dont have the feel of the 8.
The Z feels like a raging bull, attacking the corners and peeling up pavement.
The 8 feels more like a drivers car, it just seems to know what you want it to do . . . and then does it with energy.
So if you are a commuter that wants the occasional blast through the canyons, the Z is a great choice
But if you are a true driving enthusiast, I think the 8 has more to offer.

Did they crucify him upside down and burned down his village for saying such blasphemous things?

Motorweek did a good comparison on these 2 cars back in 04/05? They covered both cars well highlighting the pros and cons of both. IMO the Z is a great car, great torque, hp, handling, looks but it lacks the " feel " of the rx8, it doesn't communicate well with the driver and feels detatched. The 8 lacks power and torque but feels better all around, On the track the z pulls away on the straights but is reeled back in on the corners.........they are 2 very different cars trying to do the same thing but come at it in different directions, you want a blunt tool with power then choose the z. want a razor sharpe fine tuned finesse vehicle the its the 8....either way you are in good shape, each car will put their own strengths against each other and its a subjective choice on who comes out on top. I have seen some very very very nice track dedicated z's at the events I go to, I am usually the only 8 out when I go Since i need the back seats the choice was easy for me, but if I didn't the z would be on the top of my list.

I bought a Z roadster just to get something different. Enjoyed the RX-8 immensely during 4 yrs of ownership.
I can tell you that if you can handle not having just 2 seats, the Z is actually a thrilling ride. Very different kind of drive. The suspension is more compliant now than earlier models bringing it on par with the RX-8.... RX-8 still has a slight edge tho.
The interior materials have been upgraded as well. RX-8 still has an edge over materials, but the gap has narrowed.
The only solution for you is to buy one car now and the other for the next car.
