Hey there Ibfubar
from what I've heard there is not going to be a national launch day. They are doing the Roadshow thing which I imagine will start on the Westcoast. Ours isn't scheduled till Aug 1. They are supposed to send the cars to dealer as soon as they clear the distributin port. Did you notice they changed ETA's to a week earlier? Ours are due at Midlothian on Thursday, so hopefully they will be here sometime next week. I'm driving back to california this weekend with my son and am hoping to see some railcars along I10 full of RX's since the next boat is to dock on the 27th. I don't know if they can get them processed in 2days though! We can only hope

Ibfubar, I thought you said your dealer was releasing them as soon as possible.

Budaman: I saw those rail cars that carry vehicles; you can not see anything from the out side. I thought they were for transporting cotton until I saw them at Midlothian port. I saw a train go by today in Ennis and the sun was just right; I was able to see cars in them but I could not make out what kind.

confirmed today that my car is on port, while doing that the sales manager indicated they'd actually seen 2 RX-8 comes through.

Here's where it gets interesting:
- 2 RX-8s (1 AT, 1 MT) showed up Mon or Tues morning (23rd or 24th) in Tucson AZ along with a chase car
- Started from Port Hueneme in CA.
- Both were "production" cars
- They needed to hook up to some diagnostic equipment to confirm performance
- They had tons of test equipment including stuff to check the A/C
- Their next leg was into TX
- Goal was 15000 miles to ensure everything works PRIOR TO RELEASE OF ANY RX-8s to public

I can put an average of 1200 miles on a car in a day without doing anything really illegal, seems to me it'll take these guys another week to get the necessary mileage.

Anybody confirm or deny this stuff?

I have driven 1822 miles in 24 hours. Over two or three weeks 15K is possible.

15k miles, I wonder their route? Could be a full circuit of the country, LA -> Miami -> NY -> Seattle -> LA. Could make for a fun road trip. I figure there's going to be lots of changes in altitude, weather, road type, etc. if they're really trying to run a quick verification before releasing the car.

15K test drive.

...so Edge,

you're telling the rest of us that two cars are driving right now doing a 15K test drive in the US?

If so....I wonder where they are right now? (Sunday 29th, @ 8:43 am PST)

....very interesting.

Here in the east, it would seem to agree with what my sales manager told me Saturday. He said there were cars in JAX at the port, on the ground, but that Mazda was going to hold them about two weeks so that engineers could go over them throughly to ensure there "are no surprises." Maybe they are waiting for the west coast "road trip" results? I'm sure Mazda doesn't want a repeat of the Miata debacle when the hp difference was discovered after release.

Not

According to my information, there is no plans to "test" the cars or hold them up in any way. It's a ;ittle late for testing wouldn't you think? What if they found a problem? Are they going to rebuild them? I don't think so.
My information is that they are to get the cars to the Mazda poarts like Midlothian and make RX-8s the priority for make ready and get them to the dealers as quicklly as possible without cutting any corners.
I rpedict soem will be driving their cars for the holiday weekend. let's wait and see.

Our Florida dealer has shown us his updated status reports, and the arrival date for the car at his dealership is the first week of July. This is a week sooner than we were told last Monday. He didn't know of any lauch date or port holds. It appears Mazda is anxious to get these cars to the new owners, since there have been so many delays. I don't have any options other than GT, so maybe my car will leave the IP sooner than those requiring accessory installations.

If Mazda is not planning a "launch" then California should be driving their cars. If they are not holding them back, then port install must take weeks otherwise California would be driving their cars.

Not having any inside information, I can't post anything more than what my sales guy said. They're probably only reporting what they were told too. My dealer doesn't seem to be a "top tier" dealer. They still don't have accessory pamphlets or anything. They've been very late to get anything. Who knows how well the info is propagating. I feel like a kid playing the telephone game.

About once a day I have to say, "AAAAARGH! I WANT MY CAR!" Okay, got that out of my system. It would be really cool to get my car that's in CA right now (7 hours away max) sometime next week, even if it did come in on the second boat.

Years back I worked for a shipping / logistics company that had close ties with Honda. One day I come in to the office and I get put me on special assignment. Bunch of Japanese engineers from Honda were flying in that day and I had to go meet and greet them at LAX then drive them down to San Diego. Turns out the new Preludes had an ECU fault and they were there to swap out thousands of computers. It took nearly a week and half for them and a team of temps to finish.

So if the rumored Mazda engineers do find something, they may hold the cars at port and do final tweaks. So many items are different from Japan. Lower grade fuel, steering on the different side, more extreme climate, heavy Americans:D , etc. Hopefully they don't find any bugs...

rx8 orders response

Following received from RX8 orders to when my car is expected in Phoenix AZ, vin ending 1058.

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

Our system indicates the VIN you provided has an ETA of fifth week of
June. It looks like you can expect your RX-8 any day now. Although,
this is only an estimate time, it should not be too long before your
vehicle is at your Mazda dealership.

I hope you find this information useful. Please let me know if you have
any other questions.

(rest not relevant)

I also asked about the launch rumor, they said they will check into it, no response yet.

My sixth sense suggested calling Jeff Haas Mazda last week, but I ignored it (as I do most days)...

# 1 Cars will not be held because of this 15k mile drive. How the hell did you know about this anyhow? Damn!

# 2 Cars will be at dealers in less than two weeks.

# 3 Hope you like attention, this car gets it everywhere you go.
