That's a very informative set of videos.
It says Mazda RX-8 Information CD. I wonder who gets these CD's.

Yes, these videos were made before Mazda admitted to overrating the hp on the Renesis, also prior to the newer SAE rating standard. What I never understood is why the 6-port, high power engine (159 ft-lbs at 5,500 rpms) actually has slightly less torque than the lower power, 4-port AT engine (164 ft-lbs at 5,000 rpms).

it's to do with the airflow/intake length.

longer intake manifold runner length = more torque.

The 4 port uses the outside runners which are longer.

the 6 port uses the shorter length runners (inside/middle) and then opens up the outside ports at 6250 rpm i believe.

i may not be 100% bang on with what runners they're using, but i'm pretty sure it's along those lines.

yeah, thanks. cool video.

i was surprised to hear about the a/c cut-off at 65% throttle or more. is that accurate?? coming from from a honda, i've gotten used to tapping off the a/c when i knew i was about to floor it, but nice to know i don't have to!!! :)

2tone 06-22-2008 12:35 PM

anyone watch the "chassis" vid? is adjusting the parking break really that easy?? i might have to go try that real quick...

CyberPitz 06-22-2008 12:37 PM

Quite awesome. Learned some things!!

Conundrum 06-22-2008 01:02 PM

Did anyone notice that it had 40th Ann. RX-8 Engine Cover?:Eyecrazy: From the looks of it this video is quite old, when it used to claim 247 hp @ 8500 RPM before it was revised to 238 HP.

Myriad 06-22-2008 01:23 PM

Pretty cool, learned a bit about the internals of the engine

Is there more than the 8 parts posted on YouTube? Links have been posted here a few times.
