Lightbulb Mazda Logo

Not too long ago, I had an epiphany. I realized that the Mazda logo is not supposed to resemble a hand-drawn seagull or some other lame thing. No, thanks to a magazine journalist referring to it something like a "menacing 'M'", I now see it in a whole new light.

None-the-less, I really feel that Mazda should revise it to look something more like this. Do you agree? Disagree? Am I the only one who thought the current logo looks like a bird?

Thanks,
RX8 Dreamer

Who needs a logo anyway? What was wrong with just using the good old "Mazda" script that adorned the front of my 1981 RX-7, and most Mazdas until the mid-1990s? It served just fine as a logo IMHO, and Mazda sold their cars sold just fine. First came the weird icon that is on the front-center and wheels of my 1997 Miata (looks like a rounded rotor on a stick, in a circle), now the M bird. Thr rotor on a stick sure did not last long LOL...

The Japanese don't seem to do so well designing emblems. The Lexus L is kind of unimaginative, and like Mazda, IMHO Acura did better without their caliper-A. The Acura script alone had a nice classy look to it.

Sometimes I wish the Japanese would just go their own way, rather than come up with emblems just because others have them, or maybe hire some Eurpean designer to come up with them. Same with the syllabic jibberish names. What's a "Camry"? What's a "Sentra?" At least Mazda stuck with numeric designations, or words that had a root, like "Millenia"... and supposedly Miata means something in German...

well, what's wrong with car names like "Vitz" or "Bongo Friendee"?? (that second one's a Mazda RV, btw )

i don't like all the names like "Fairlady", "Accord", or "Avalon"... they're just boring... creativity is the name of the game, and copying words from an english dictionary isn't quite it... well, for me at least. :D

The current logo certainly beats the pants off of Mazda's last emblem.

Here's an interesting page with a bit of history on Mazda logos/emblems. http://www.mx-3.com/emblem/

You version of the logo is menacing. I like it. I doubt that Mazda will change there logo anytime soon since they recently changed it and it actaully looks good. I also doubt that they will have a one off logo like the Efini logo or one just for MazdaSpeed models.

I think your logo might be inspiration for many show cars on the import scene.

Bah, this was the best Mazda emblem of all...

Most people won't remember it, I think it was only used up until 1977.

Personally, I kind of like the logo used on the rx7 forum. It is kind of an old and new combination, with an obvious hint at the rotary.

I'm a little to old to get a tattoo, but I'd let my baby RX-8 wear one on it's rear!

I'd have to agree with DonG35Miata. The "mazda" logotype looks clean and simple and still serves them well. I prefer the old '60's "m" logo over the present one, at least it's got sort of an honesty to it.

The big pointy flying m thing detracts a bit too much from the front end design of the RX-8. I wish they could have put it in the grille, but of course, then it would be covered by that humongous license plate and bracket!

Are you kidding me? This is my favorite one, I think it's really perty.

Or maybe I'm just partial.

Nope... other (pis-ton) cars go boing boing boing... Mazda goes hmmmmmmm!

Well, if the circle-whatever is a toilet seat, the RX-7 forum rotary logo looks like a refuge from the female anatomy section of a high school Health textbook...
