Mazda knows best ??? "Ya. right..."
I am a fairly new member to this forum.
Like a lot of you here, I want learn about my car.
For the most part, I am very satisfied with my car.
I'm just not a very happy Mazda customer...
The one thing that bothers me most is the
mis-advertising by Mazda concerning our HP rating.
Their Web Site continues to list the incorrect HP ratings to this day...
I sent an email to Mazda USA
Here's what they had to say...
Dear Al,
Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.
The listed and advertised horsepower for the RX-8 is 238 for the Manual
6-Speed Trans and 197 for the automatic. The Horsepower for your
automatic RX-8 IS 197 and that IS what we advertise. That has been the
advertised horsepower since August of 2003. The actual horsepower of
RX-8 vehicles has never changed. In other words, no matter when your
vehicle was purchased, it does not have any less or more horsepower
than any other factory RX-8. So yours is at its proper specs.
Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
reply.

I think we have all been down this road dozens of times. From what I can tell no one here can really agree on how much horse power it has. Only that it is somewhere between 215 and 238 at the crank and less than that at the wheels

Thanks stanfordcole,
I'm just sharing.

Most pathetic thread of the week award, and it's only Wednesday.
If you insist on being unhappy about something, choose something that actually matters. We should be bitching to Mazda about exposed A/C condensors and oil cooler(s), lousy cupholders and Bose stereos. Changing those things would actually make a difference in our lives.

As Polak showed with his 14.5 1/4 mile, with a 6spd, there is nothing to worry about with the power issue. Enjoy your car, you bought it, so you minus well.

first i see it was william zdan who emailed you back. i and several other pre-order customers had long conversations with him. he is a straight up guy who helped us thru some pre-order problems. he is telling you the truth as far as he knows it and would go to great lengths if you had a problem that he could actually help with. he has in the past called dealerships himself to get problems straightened out for many people.
what makes you think that the current advertised hp for the automatic is wrong? you do understand that is flywheel HP right? not at the wheels. does your car feel less powerful than when you test drove it? did you read the specs before you bought? then when you test drove it did you not believe the number? if so why did you buy it? if the only thing that is keeping you from enjoying your car is a number than sell it and get a car that has a number you like. or get over it.
spinning again-

have you done any complaining to mazda on the issues you have? i understand your problem with the ac condensor and oil cooler. although there have not been many reports of problems with those. but cupholders? what is the problem with your cupholders? they do there job pretty from my vantage point. and as far as the bose goes you knew when buying your car you would get a bose. if you didnt like it why buy it? you could have gotten a base or sport model without the bose, then you wouldnt have to complain about it. even if mazda were to change the items you spoke about how would it help you? they arent going to retrofit new cupholders and new stereo into your car. they will just make changes for a future model year.

And this is the first I've heard that some rx8 6speed manuals are less than 238hp! Is that true?

Hey SpinninAgain! ,
I appreciate everyone's replies to my threads.
I don't have a problem with negative critism...
Why should I complain about my A/C condensers and oil cooler(s)
when I haven't had any problems with them?
Just because my concerns about my HP don't seem important to you
doesn't mean it's not important to others reading here!
Why don't you try and contribute something to this forum other then your sarcasm.
You haven't even had your car a month and already you're an "expert"....
PS: I guess if I drove puke yellow vehicle I'd be cranky too....

advertised HP is always crank HP. some people say that the RX-8 that the rx-8 isnt dynoing enough at the wheels to add up to 238 at the crank. Mazda also has a 5% legal window. racing beat put a renesis on an engine dyno and reported 218 hp at the crank.

RX8_MD, please don't delete threads just because your question is answered. Other people might have the same question, and would be able to do a search and find your thread, rather than folks posting the same question over and over. If it concerns you, P/M a moderator and have him/her close the thread instead.
Thanks!
Thanks!
