Massive Power Loss HELP

Hi all. Had the 8 on the dyno today and it only produced 98.4 rwkw's. It has only done 104,000km's or about 61,000miles. Whats up with this? Over the last 12 months there has been a gradual power loss. about 3 weeks ago I replaced the leads, Plugs and coil paks. NO LUV!! I replaced the plugs about 6 months ago and she was still missing so I checked it out before replacing them again and 1 was rusted and looking like it had travelled 100,000kms. It still seems to be missing and I have no idea why I am about 35kw's short. I haven't done any work to the 8 she is Stock as a rock!! what could it Be PLEASE anyone?? I have not serviced the injectors and pump or changed the fuel filter.. Could this be an issue? I have replaced the front and rear oxy and Cat and all of the above and frequently do my oil. :wallbash:

Any help or insights you can provide are highly appreciated.

Any recent compression tests?

alnielsen 09-22-2011 05:18 AM

Yes, a compression check is in order. Could you post any engine codes that have been found in the ECU?

No compression test as yet and no ECU fault codes. What would be the best way to conduct a compression test?

A Mazda dealership would have to perform the compression test, unless you happen to know someone who has a rotary engine compression tester.. Usually the dealer will charge around $100-$200.

Hey Scooter I have mechanics at my work but they dont know anything about the Renesis can I utilise any of there equipment?

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 06:05 AM

Could it be my OE exhaust???

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 06:15 AM

Hey alnielsen I will go past my Mates workshop 2moro and use his scan tool and if it throws any new codes i'll let you know but haven't had a code since my cat clapped out oops sorry front & rear Oxy and cat clapped out.

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 06:18 AM

Hey Wingznut do you do your own comp test?

Wingznut 09-22-2011 06:35 AM

I've done hundreds of compression tests on piston engines, but never on a rotary. And yes, you'll need to use a compression tester designed for a rotary.

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 06:38 AM

is it cheaper to buy the tools or pay someone that has them? As i have the tech's at my work who can diagnose if they have these tools.

Wingznut 09-22-2011 06:40 AM

After a quick Google search, looks like two-rotor compression testers are between $300-400.

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 06:42 AM

Hey Wingznut what exhaust are you running? and if so at how many km's or miles did you change your oe at? Because my biggest issue that i have had with the 8 was my cat and oxy's do you think the exhaust could be the issue?

scooter_dmi 09-22-2011 06:44 AM

Easiest way is to just go to a Mazda dealer. If you go there, and you fail the compression test they can get you started on a possible replacement engine under warranty.

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 06:45 AM

Mazda Tech's can never diagnose where i am 3 told me when i had my cat and oxy issues that i would need a complete rebuild..

Stock exhaust, all original with 39,000 miles. Yes, exhaust COULD be the issue. As could a dozen other things.

what are your thoughts about other issues? all the old school 13B's i have had have not been the renesis? and have been easy fixes.. they usually lose power then go bang within a month or so this 8 has been going strong then slowly going down hill for the last 18 months is this the new school apex seals wearing or do they just go bang within a thousand k or so like the old school 13b's??

Mr Franco 09-22-2011 08:04 AM

Anybody know anything besides the obvious about the purge solenoid valve misfunction & is this tyre pressure really related???

jasonrxeight 09-22-2011 12:52 PM

what engine do you have?

zoom44 09-22-2011 01:50 PM

you need a compression check. the only part of your stock exhaust that would effect the power over time is the cat which you say has been changed
