Manual vs auto climate control

Ok, maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, but is there any way to convert the AC/Heater from manual ***** (i.e. 1-4 fan speed, red/blue temp, etc) to dual zone auto climate control? Maybe not even dual zone, but climate control would be cool (or hot depending on the season )...Maybe integrate the control into my new head unit? More curious as I assume this would be a fairly big undertaking if it is even possible.

The JDM RX-8 came with auto climate control as an option. (option did not come to the US/Canada to keep the car at particular price point)

Don't know how involved it would be to find a used JDM HVAC control and adapt it to a USDM car though.

FALSE

My SII Rx8 GT has Auto Climate Control
I have seen photos of the R3 from Canada also with Auto Climate Control so I would imagine the GT from Canada has it as well. On top of that, I believe the Touring model had it as well.

Yes according to edmunds the S2, GT have auto climate control, regular touring doesn't. Although the S1 appears to not have auto climate control available. So the question is, do you have a S1 or S2? If you don't have a S2, I would assume the answer to no. If you do, I would assume the answer to be... Possible?

I don't think the R3 does. I believe the R3 is just a more tuned version of the Touring trim. The GT is the only one listed with auto climate controls that I can find. Check sometime to see if it does, I could be wrong.

From edmunds:
There are four trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and R3. The base Sport features 18-inch wheels and performance tires, a rear lip spoiler (manual transmission models only), air-conditioning, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, full power accessories and a six-speaker stereo with CD player and auxiliary audio jack. The Touring trim adds a limited-slip rear differential, xenon headlights, foglights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and an in-dash six-CD changer.

Grand Touring RX-8s have this equipment plus automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, an eight-way power driver seat with memory, heated front seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, keyless ignition/entry, Bluetooth and a nine-speaker Bose surround-sound system. The new-for-2009 R3 trim level is essentially a Touring model with a more aggressively tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, a rear wing spoiler, a revised front bumper, Recaro front sport seats, keyless ignition/entry, Bluetooth and the upgraded Bose stereo.

Ok So maybe I'm not quite fully understaning "Auto Climate Control"

For example: I pick a temp, and a fan level. I do not have cold/hot options.

Also included on my R3, which you have listed for GT:

Bluetooth
Auto Headlights
Rain-Sensing Wipers
Proximity Key Card
(Not sure about the heated mirrors)

Easy answer here. I don't think blkninja realizes that you have my R3 a Canadian spec R3.

The US R3s don't have climate control, the Canadian ones do.

Solved?

That kinda sucks. Why do the hosers get auto? They probably don't even use A.C.
I know they don't have it in their igloos.
My '86 Caddy had auto climate control.

Canadian's get headlight washers too.
I don't think its interchangeable. the automatic AC relies on sensors to adjust flaps and the manual version does not have these.
