It makes me so sad...

So as I was driving back home to LA tonight, a black 8 (at least I think it was black, maybe it was green) passed by me on Fullerton Road. I sped up to wave to the driver, but I got nothing in return. Not even a look at me. I know he was a new owner because he didn't have a license plate yet. Anyway, So we both pull up at the intersection and he starts revving his engine. I thought he would just pass by me, so I didn't accelerate. He screeches his tires and launches out ahead of me. I was so shocked... another 8 was racing me. Oh and by the way I have an automatic . And so I accelerate and shift at redline to caught up and I pass him as he was stuck behind two cars side by side. The car in my lane pulls ahead and so I switch lanes to pass and he comes around and follows me. He races me up and I try to not pull because I wanted him at my side to see what his problem was. He comes even with me and pulls away without even looking....
... I feel as some new rx8 owners are challenging our own cars...
... It makes me feel so sad to have these street racers with our cars...

Sad isn't the word that comes to mind, pity is. He will be embarrassed very soon when he realizes our 8 isn't exactly a light to light burner and will be the butt of many jokes. Hopefully he will have his girlfriend in the car when he gets smoked by a guy in a neon.
Ok by me, all I have to do is take my ride on the back country roads and i know then why i bought her. You can have the egotrip redlight race while i cruise in the country with sophisticated handling and comfort those street racers can't begin to compare with. He needs to change cars immediately.

You're hardly innocent in the whole thing. Maybe you shouldn't "speed up to wave at the driver" or "accelerate and shift at redline to caught up and I pass him". Sounds like you were giving off the impression you wanted to do something. You should have just left the whole thing alone, you look just as bad.

Yea, I'm not at all innocent either. I shouldn't have given off any impression of the sort. I usually shift at redline in 1st gear on late night drives anyway, but I guess my regular driving made it seem like I was going for it. Oh... well...

For some reason this thread came into my mind as I was driving to get lunch today.

I thought, "hmm...way to break in your new car!"
