Make your radio display 'custom' words?

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I saw a pic of someones stock radio displaying their own words they somehow set it to display. I dont know if it was photoshopped or real (my browser crashed and I lost what thread it was in)

Anyone have any info on setting up custom words to display?

Thanks in advance

Just an off topic question I've always wondered. How old are you? Just wondering....Sorry, don't know the answer to your question.

As far as I know you can only change it with the Metra Dash Kit.

I have the metra kit and it will let you program whatever you want in that space. Easy to program and change too.

Anyone have a link to this Metra kit? Is this the dash kit to put in an aftermarket radio? The pic I saw was the OEM head unit, that I am certain. Hm....

And yes I am 31, unfortunately.

The Metra Kit is the dash kit. Do you remember what the display said? I guess it could be possible that it is in the ECU somewhere and we just haven't heard of it here...which seems unlikely. The other option is that it was a picture of someone who was using an Axxess iPod dock for the 8 and it was ID3 information from an iPod like this...

Ahhhhhhhhh yes there it is! I could have sworn it was the OEM head unit but I guess not. So how do you program that to say that? There doesnt appear to be any buttons to change the screen.... I wonder if that screen can be put in to just replace the OEM screen so it is programmable?

The instructions come with the metra kit but I know it is a series of key presses using the HVAC controls. And the Metra kit doesn't replace the screen, the screen just gets the information from the Metra kit instead of the factory head unit.

crutchfield.com or sonicelectronix.com, or you can search "Rx8 metra dash kit" on google to see if you can find another site for a bit cheaper.
BTW, this thread is from 2009.
