Loud A/C - Heater Fan?

I've noticed that my heater and a/c fan on level 3 is really loud... and of course gets even worse when turned up. Is this normal for our cars?

Yeah mine is pretty loud at 3. I but hardly ever have it that high. I get glass cutters when I have the AC on at level 2.

Yes..ive noticed this as well.

Its VERY loud.

DO you notice an overwhelming amount of air going thru the defroster vents when in floor only mode?

A trickle..I can understand as most cars do this, but I get a LOT of defrost air.

Now..if I split with dash-floor mode, I get more foot air than in just floor mode, hence my note about how much air comes out the defroster vents.

I also notice it doesnt get that hot...

The fans will get louder each year from car manufacturers as they try to compensate for the reduced air cooling from new freon technologies. They just don't work like in the old days.

So they make the fans push more air out to make you feel cool. Hence loud fans.

True, but every new car I have been in is not a silent as in the old days.

You actually hear the air moving not the fans.

It's also an issue of less sound insulation. My Toyota moves just as much air with far less noise.

It seems like recently my defroster vents have gotten WAY louder than before when on floor only mode. Up until about a couple of months ago it was pretty quite, then all of a sudden I started noticing the increase in defroster air movement. I thought a duct could have come loose, but I don't know after reading this.

Anyone else notice a distinct change in noise over time?

My fan is loud even at setting 2, and has been since I bought it. I've been thinking of asking the dealer to look at it, but that doesn't sound too promising now.

Thanks for the confirming data

Actually the air vent system is good. It's the heat from the transmission theat make the cabin so warm and the temperture unstable in summer.

so what's the cause/fix?

i guess the next step for me is to take off my glovebox and see what the noise actually is, right?

thats up to you. i live with it as the heater heats teh car extremely well. really dont need it on fan speed three or four for long at all. i keep it on one or two noramally.

i believe that the fan is louder than most cars but i also feel that it was designed in a way that unfortunatly made it loud. i dont think there's a fix for it because nothing may be worng at all.

I think they are all extremely loud. Doesn't bother me too much, as I never go past 3 unless it's REALLY cold.

It might be that the filter behind the glove box needs changing....

Yeah, the noise isn't going to kill me or anything but it's something I believe can be fixed. I never take the A/C or Heat above 1-2 so this fan noise does bother me. Thus, I hope we can find a cheap + durable solution!

Are you sure its the fan noise and not the air that is flowing?
