Welcome to the club. What exactly are you looking for? Year? Auto or stick? If your looking at used find one with all service records if possible and confirm with Mazda dealer to ensure all TSB's were performed and ECU has latest flashes.

Just like any used car, shoot for the newest year with the least amount of miles you can get into. Most early model issues (that usually plagues just about any first year car) would have probably been resolved on the first year or 2 so nothing really wrong with an '04 or so if it's in good condition and a Mazda dealer should be able to tell you what TSB's or recalls were performed on the car.

Honestly, gas mileage varies from 8 to 8. Personally, I drive 60/40 city/highway and routinely get around 250 miles until my emergency light comes on. I believe that roughly 13 gallons are used when the emergency light comes on. Correct me if I'm wrong. It really depends on how heavy your foot is and your ratio of city/highway driving. Sometimes it could be 350...and other times it could be 180
