Look what I got

I've been looking for a new car for a while, and finally I decided on an 8. It took a month or two to find the right one (and to stop procrastinating), and finally on friday night I got one.

So I just wanted to stop by and thank the forum, I've been reading carefully for the last two months, learning everything I could about the car, and the posts here have been a huge help (and very entertaining). And thanks to the great advice and knowledgeable posts by the members here I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

And two more:

One quick question if I may, I've read about the milky foamy oil on the dipstick and I know it's not a serious problem, but I checked the oil there today and it went most of the way up the dipstick. I cleaned the dipstick, checked again, cleaned a few more times and the same thing. I've searched but I haven't seen it mentioned to be that bad. Is that normal or is there something wrong?

Thanks,
Steve.

Thanks .

Not a lot unfortunately. The weather was pretty bad that night, lots of heavy rain and standing water so I stopped off at my parents house which was on the way. The plus side is that they've lots of winding roads near them so got to have some fun the next day . I can't believe how effortlessly this car just eats up bends that my last car didn't like at half the speed.

It just needs to get warmed up good. Those short trips don't do that. Do you have the cars history?

Thanks, the first two drives I had were about 1.5 hours each, but thinking back they were both quite easy apart from 1 or 2 quick redlines, just to test that the beep was working . And of course it has been cold and wet. I have the full history and there's a good service record with plenty of oil changes, and from talking with the previous owner he's very much a car enthusiast who looked after it really well. I'm going to take a good long drive after work tonight and hope that clears some of it up.

As said they're headlight washers. I'm in Ireland and there's an EU regulation that any car with factory fitted xenons has to come with headlight washers (and automatic self-levelling). It's a good way to easily tell between the different spec levels, only the 231bhp 6-speed MT comes with xenons so when you see the little squares you know that's exactly what it is.

I love the little lip spoiler too, I think they're standard or a basic dealer option here, I've seen them on most 8s, but I think they give it a lovely balanced look.

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

Sounds like you've done your homework. Congrats and welcome. I do like the Euro lip spoiler, wish they had put them on trims here in the US.

it works so beautifully! i wish mine had them. its so flawless in its operation. perfect!

i read that the euro lip spoiler is mandatory on all euro rx8s for some emission reason. it could be just hearsay.

Thanks, I did put a lot of research into it, buying any car really is a series of compromises, the 8 struck a great balance for me and I'm delighted with it

Hehe, I had to get a friend to sit in so I could watch them work, they are a great little addition. As far as I can tell they're powered by the water pressure so there's no extra little motor or servo to make them pop out which is a pretty touch, like everything else in the car.

You're correct, I remember that now. I haven't seen it officially from Mazda, but that's the common wisdom on Irish and English rotary sites. I'm not sure exactly how it helps emissions, but it looks good so I won't complain.

Definitely, it's a beautiful car in any colour, but Ti-Gray just takes it to a whole other level. (it's always been my favourite car colour anyway)
